Interesting article from the Washington Post about the conservatorship. Legal opinions seeming to lean in Oher's favor regarding the proceeding.

The reality of how the conservatorship was used, however, is far more limited than in other high-profile cases to which Oher’s has been compared, like that of pop star Britney Spears. And it is also in large part because of the conservatorship, legal experts told The Post, that Oher potentially has a case against the Tuohys at all.

Took Oher's side? I am shocked.

TNT programmers must've noticed the lawsuit and have The Blind Side back in their basic cable rotation.
I tried to watch it for the first time. Impossible to watch that whole thing without fast forwarding. But it seemed like they completely skipped over the fact that Oher had been staying with other families and Saint Sandra Bullock was the one who stepped up and saved his life, staring down gang bangers and the NCAA.
Surprised the movie did address the question of the Tuohy's steering him to Ole Miss.

The opening and how he gets into the school is literally him staying at that mechanic dudes house.

Oher claims he did not remember signing, suggesting it was potentially obtained by “forgery” or “trickery.”
Michael Oher is broke and looking for a pay day. The $250k given for the movie was split equally between everyone, it wasn’t some huge life changing amount of money anyways…but especially not to a family worth millions and Oher who has made millions in the NFL
He’s supposedly “devastated” he’s not actually “adopted” even though this family took him in and helped him, and he’s the one throwing his “family” to the wolves and trying to frick them over.

Yeah if they treated him with love, gave him a good roof over his head, and fed him, then he needs to be a little more appreciative.

Both producers of the movie, Johnson and Kosove explained in a statement obtained by People Magazine that the family, including Oher, made roughly $767,000 in total payments.
The deal "was consistent with the marketplace at that time for the rights of relatively unknown individuals," the statement detailed. "Therefore, it did not include significant payouts in the event of the film’s success."
"As a result, the notion that the Tuohys were paid millions of dollars by Alcon to the detriment of Michael Oher is false."
… Author Michael Lewis sold his rights to his 2006 book based on Oher, "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game," and the film was later made.

Also from the post article it sounds more like the judge went overboard, and Oher wasn’t restricted in reality.
quote:
Judges have an obligation to impose the “least restrictive means to secure [the] well-being” of the person in the conservatorship, McKenrick said. But the judge’s order imposed a far-reaching “plenary” conservatorship that takes away most of Oher’s legal rights. And while the Tuohys’ petition asked for the arrangement to continue “at least until he reaches the age of 25 or until terminated by order of this court prior to that time,” the judge’s order imposed it indefinitely.
And while the restrictiveness of the conservatorship agreement is jarring, the reality of how it was used appears to be far more limited. Oher was fully in control of his finances and medical decisions, the Tuohy family said, and there were no financial assets in the conservatorship. He signed his own contracts and enlisted his own agents.
“The fact of the matter is that nobody really even thought about it. Nobody ever considered it. The court never sent any notices,” said Randall Fishman, an attorney for the family. He claimed the Tuohys would have voluntarily ended the conservatorship whenever Oher asked, which Fishman said he did not.
The mom got famous because of Sandra Bullock and script’s focus on lead actress not taking advantage of conservatorship of Oher. They were wealthy already.

This is what I’ve been saying.
Oher and his attorneys (and the bleeding hearts on here) have latched on to the conservatorship piece which I agree can be read bad, but if the Tuoheys weren’t and haven’t acted on any of it and Michael was living his own life what are the actual damages?
Again, it’s Oher who seems to be throwing his “family” under the bus here.
I’ll wait for Ohers team to release any actual damages other than “my feelings are hurt because the legal contract that the people who took me in and loved me says Conservatorship on it rather than Adoption” which is all he’s done at this point (in addition to saying he didn’t get paid for the movie, which doesn’t seem true and will be easy to prove via accounting)
