SERIOUS??? You were there in the 80's?????
pj stories/reports don't just disappear once they are done. you realize that, right?
i can read what was reported about michael jordan in the 80s today. i didn't have to be there
quote:
Yes he would.
did the public support allen iverson's shitty off court behavior?

I know this but they do not do justice compared to living through it. You think today is better than yesterday cause you did not live through it and give a fair assessment. Its fact Jake. I respect that you know a shitload about sports. But I have lived through both eras, Think about it. Is MJ a jerk. Sure he always has been , but to think he would not be as good as he was back then in todays game is just STUPID.

magic was amazing, but he wouldn't be the same guy today for sure. the lack of the 80s frantic paces would hurt him
Today's scoring pace is one reason people feel the game has declined. Could today's defenses match those offenses and physical play. One reason the games are slower today is because the average player is not as skilled they were 20-30 years ago. Blame AAU ball and most of the best players of today leaving college after their first year. This prevents them from developing well rounded games.

from when?
we're talking about 3 distinct eras
80s fastbreak (little defense except cheap shots here or there)
90s post-bad boy ball (all grabbing, physical defense and offense based on isolation ball)
neo-NBA (post-rules changes that sped up the game so that it could find a middle road b/w 80s offense and 90s defense. it really opened up the perimeter-driving play)

yes
and they would destroy the non-physical and weak 80s offenses

that is wrong
the game is slower today b/c, as the bad boys showed us all, if you play super aggro D and isolate, you reduce the chance of the other team scoring. it's like a football team based around "running and defense." butler runs this in college
that style almost killed the NBA

that is good for the NBA skill level

this is the most well-rounded era of NBA ball
good offense. good defense. versatile players. efficient offensive systems using advanced theories and not gut feelings

in 1986/87, the league average pace was 100.8
in 2012/13, the league average pace is 91.8
that's 9 more possessions per 48 minutes, or about a 10% increase from today's game

WHAT?? The Lakers and Celtic teams frm the 80's would destroy the HEAT right now .

Negative. They are not developed enough. There are exceptions but not that many.

PROVE THIS STATEMENT. YOU CAN'T. The players are bigger and stronger but the fundamentals are not even close to the 80's or 90's.

PROVE THIS STATEMENT
see how easy that was?
the NBA today is an era dominated by guys with amazing dribbling and passing ability and so much shooting that big men are jumpshooters. how is that not a development in skill/fundamentals?

Brother, Lebron James is quite possibly the greatest physical specimen to play in ANY sport EVER. There isn't a soul in any era of basketball who could contain him.

They did not have players that could do this back in the 80's and 90's?????

This I will agree with.

There are few exceptions[as I said to a guy coming out after one year or straight from HS. But not many.

AGAIN. You were NOT there.

OK. Who gaurds Jabbar??? Who gaurds Magic?? Who stops worthy??? Let Bron bring that shite into the lane and Rambis breaks his face.
As far as the Celts??? The Heat have NOBODY to stop Bird ,Parrish OR McHale. Dennis Johnson would eat Wades lunch.

I agree. But I have NEVER seen ONE player win a BBALL game by himself.

Smits, Willis, sabonis, and divac would be stars today

I agree. But that doesn't means its better. The reason these guys in todays game have to do some of those stupid TRICK dunks is BECAUSE of Jordan and Wilkins. This is what you do not get.
............ Oh stop it. When did I say that wasn't the case? In fact I'm pretty sure I said the exact reason guys that dunk contest appears to suck is because guys have to push the envelop to nearly impossible dunks because all the others have been done. That was logically imply that Jordan and Wilkins had a place in this.
But you're changing your point over and over and over. You said that those dunks would win contests today because they're better. They wouldn't, and they're not. For their time, they were great, and they're still great with context, but they're relics in a modern dunk contest. That's what you don't get.

I don't see him going in on the 80's Lakers like that.
BTW I LOVE the missed dunk.
