Well before it, I'm sure.

Would've been awesome to be there in person!

Right when we got in there. It was before the last undercard fight. The place was packed for the main event no doubt.

My buddy who is a big boxing fan talked me into going to the Mayweather-Cotto fight last year and I'm hooked. I've been to a lot of big sporting events but there really isn't anything like a big fight weekend in Vegas.

Awesome. One day, I'll be able to afford those big fights. Looks like you had great seats too!

One last comment before I let this thread die. It may or may not have been mentioned yet, but the referee - Robert Byrd - did an excellent job in this fight. Hat's off to him. And the Showtime commentators seemed less annoying than usual. I still prefer the HBO broadcasts, though.

There are plenty of champions in boxing that arent special talents bateman. Garcia, is a good fighter, not elite. He doenst have elite speed, or elite anything. He is just really good at everything

Peterson is full of holes and i wont go there.

I compare all fighters to the best at the moment and none compare and none can challenge floyd seriously.

That makes garcia middle of the road in my book. He iant good enough to beat the elite.

And one more comment on that, i feel the same about Alvarez. While yes he is good young up and coming fighter, and he will be great i think. At the moment he isnt on the elite level. He has alot of learning to do and if they push him into the ring with floyd, he will be schooled.

Ive only felt one fighter the last three to four years could competively fight mayweather and thats Martinez. That no longer is the case though

MMA already blows boxing out the water. I saw the same ESPN poll you are refrencing. ESPN is so slanted. They have boxing as a product to promote, and have major competition with MMA and Fox.

The only people who watch boxing are pretty much purists. They are the ones who say MMA is not as big. Casual boxing fan can name 1-2 boxers. Casual MMA fans can name 4-5 fighters. Writing is on the wall bromos.

I dont know why you replied to me but i will answer you.

Mma has its fans and boxing has its fans. At the moment and forseable future boxing will outsell ppvs compared with mma.

I watch both but prefer boxing as its my sport of choice but if you think boxing will go away then you are going to be disapointed.

Mma has peaked and the numbers back that statement up. Boxing is at a lowpoint by its standards and still reigns supreme in sales.

Boxing at one time was the sport of sports and to be heavy weight champion was the top of the mountaintop

Agreed. I thought that in the Summer 2011, it was the best fight that could be made. Floyd was coming off wins against Marquez/Mosley and Martinez had just destroyed Pavlik/Williams.

Mayweather-Martinez at 154 would have been epic. But you're right, it's no longer the same potential matchup. Martinez looked really old against Murray last weekend.

Agreed. Unfortunately Martinez looked really old the other weekend though. It's lost it's luster, IMO.

Martinez was pushing for the fight hard a couple of years ago too. He openly said in post fight interviews that he only had a few more big bouts left in him and wanted Mayweather. I don't have a link, but I remember it being reported that Martinez would have dropped to 150 for the fight if he had to. I think it was the Friday night fights crew talking about it a couple of years ago that reported that.
