if Matt Campbell gets fired he would be the likely #1 option for some major BCS programs immediately

FCS? Who is he, Bradley Dale Peveto?

Starting at Iowa State’s seventh win, Campbell will earn $250,000 per win for each Cyclone victory.

They’re a one year wonder though. He should have taken the money and run. He’ll be lucky to get 9 wins (including bowl) this year

Not if his team struggles for multiple years and he gets fired for that. Coaches lose their luster very very fast in this business, you have to cash in when you have the chance

There's a big difference between 6 and 10. USC isn't giving Iowa St's coach $10 mil a year. Or $8.75 for that matter

USC is a private school so they like to operate cheaper than most. State government doesn't help them like LSU or UCLA. They're mired in finances and they pass that cost of operating on to their students who have the 7th highest financial debt woes in the country.

USC has kept Clay Helton because he's an under a $5 mil guy.

Tuition would go to $75,000 a year if they paid a coach $10 mil a year.

If that team is an NFL team, it won't matter.

Iowa State returns 20/22 starters, including their QB and entire offensive line, from their 2020 squad who finished 9-3 and at #9 in the polls. All three losses in 2020 were to teams who finished ranked. Iowa State should be favored in at least 9 games in 2021.

In conclusion, you are completely incorrect.

Campbell has something like 60%+ of the 8+ win seasons in Iowa State's 100 year football history. He beats ranked teams at Iowa State with regularity FFS

There are a lot of notables on his resume as a coach, but something I've admired is that his teams are typically competitive even when overmatched, which is pretty impressive at ISU. I can't remember, but I think Iowa State only has like 2-3 losses of more than 14 points in the last 4 or so seasons. Pretty good for a traditional doormat that I'm sure was pretty accustomed to getting crushed by ranked teams before his arrival.

Taking bad jobs and losing poorly always damages one's reputation.

See Butch Jones.

He won at Central Michigan and he won at Cincinnati.
He was a hot name coach.

He did ok at Tennessee for a few years until he didn't.

The he got canned. Spent a couple of years on Saban's shadow staff as an offensive analyst and special asst to the head coach.

And he recently took the HC job at Arkansas State.

So yes.... the Lions job would be comparable.

Failing with the Lions would not have affected his standing in CFB

Oh yeah, but the question will be more IF he wants to go back to CFB or if he'll be like BOB and stay in the NFL

Campbell has to make lemonade with one hand tied behind his back. For all his success Iowa State just brought in the #55 ranked recruits in the nation.

He may be doing more with less than even Mullen at Miss State. Detroit isn't the answer for any successful coach but sticking around Ames much longer seems a waste of time if you want to compete and win on the highest level.

NO one expects Iowa st to win more than 6 games

He's greatly over achieving there

Not the same situation as what Campbell is doing at Iowa State and you know that.

o yes.... the Lions job would be comparable.

Name the last coach that spent 4 seasons or more as the HC of the Lions and had a winning record.

Unless Campbell went winless in all of his seasons there, he would get another job. Hell if the deal was fully guaranteed a la Jimbo’s deal, he would be set up for life anyways.

If he has two bad seasons in a row at Iowa State, the bigger offers will dry up. Take the big offers when they come.
