Clemson is a solid addition,
Clemson is another one of those sleeping giants, sort of like A&M, why haven't you guys been better? I thinnk they are on the rise. Dabo has been recruiting some talent, though losing Nkemdiche for 2013 hurts, they seem to be on the rise.
OU/UT/FSU, with OSU/CU/ would be a pretty solid upper tier

I am in the minority, but I like the additions of Maryland and Rutgers. Gets the conference in bigger and better markets.

meh, although Rutgers excites me even less (assuming they decide to go B10).

The ACC might be going the way of the Big East soon...those two conferences should just merge.
My preference is to add OU and FSU, just based on the fact that they have great athletic programs, but I don't see that happening...
VT and NC State do nothing for me...Clemson doesn't make sense with South Carolina already in the conference, although they have an SEC-feel to them.
The SEC doesn't need another school from Texas.
I say look at Oklahoma, Florida State first, then consider North Carolina and Virginia schools.

Oklahoma is a no-brainer... IF they'll come. Last time around, they weren't willing to ditch Texas.
They bring a double-whammy of a great program and additional media markets.
Florida State's a great program but I don't think they do much for us media-wise and media money is the driver of the current movements.

OU will not come without Okie Lite, the Pac 12 already tried that, and Okie Lite didn't meet it's "high academic standards" despite those idiots not realizing NCAA Football has little to do with academics.
Also, aren't we still going on about expanding the TV market? What would adding FSU bring in that UF doesn't?

What are you hearing about fan interest in the B1G trying to get a foothold in the South and picking up Georgia Tech?
I believe the B1G fans are happy staying at 12 teams right now; however, since this alignment what is the trend in the college football and sports, then why not get solid teams that solid with academics.
Additionally, I believe the fans would like adding teams in the south - this way this would help open up recruiting in the south and maybe make it easier to get some players to commit that otherwise would choose a school where their friends and family could see them play on tv.
The Bottom Line....it is about money.

Also, the SEC needs to think how FSU in the Big 12 would affect them...

the ACC got played by ND
Notre Dame just got outplayed by the Big Ten. They're going to break up the ACC as it was before Notre Dame ever plays a conference game.

I've said for the last couple of years that Rutgers would be a target of the conference. It makes sense to me, and probably will also benefit the Rutgers program a hell of a lot.

I don't think that UNC will go to the SEC. They would want Duke to come with them and probably look down their nose at SEC schools' academics.
NC State, however, may be willing to play ball.
It'l be very interesting to see how this plays out. I can see the ACC totally falling apart starting with Clemson and FSU leaving for the BIg 12.
Then GaTech gets an invite from Big 10 and they go there.
That leaves UNC, UVA, NCSU and Va Tech as the most desirable teams left
SEC can add two and Big 10 add one and Big 12 could look to add 1 of these teams plus Louisville
I don't think we're tied to Duke, we could keep our basketball rivalry with Duke like UK/Louisville, obviously it would suffer but life goes on
I would like to see UNC and UVa go to SEC, Va Tech goes to the Big 10 and NCSU joins Clemson, FSU and Louisville in Big 12, but who knows how this will all shake out

"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power."
Money is power and that is why this is a smart move. 6MM more in revenue for each school keeps every non-revenue sport afloat for the near future and it brings us into some of the more powerful NE markets.

I don't see the big deal about losing Maryland. I have read that the ACC will look at Georgetown and/or St. Johns to replace them in non-football sports.

indeed, this move has absolutely no impact on ND.
only thing that will force their hand is if there is a strong movement toward superconferences of 16 teams.

Under its current rules, the B1G cannot add Georgia Tech as it is not in a state connected to another B1G state.
Maybe the should try for K-State?

Agreed. Texas has already destroyed two conferences, why throw that mess into the SEC? Especially when we're already in the Texas market. I hope it's UNC and VA Tech that get the nod.
