He is currently on his way to becoming the third No. 1 overall pick to never reach the majors (Steve Chilcott and Brien Taylor).

Not sure how the Astros will recover after completely bombing on Appel and Aiken in consecutive drafts.

Notable 2013 MLB draft results -

1. Houston - Mark Appel
2. Chi. Cubs - Kris Bryant
32. NYY - Aaron Judge
124. LAD - Cody Bellinger

The Aiken mishap could have happened to any team since they aren't allowed a medical before draft. The appel pick was terrible from the get go.they passed on him The year before for good reason. He is a good kid but no inner drive or toughness.

Honestly worked out in the end for HOU. Wouldn't have Bregman if it didn't happen and he'd be playing in Arlington.

It won’t happen but if the long term in field is bregman, cc and altuve I’ll be a very happy man

One of them at least will go get paid fat

Astros drafter Carlos Correa first in 13. Not Appel. Appel went in '12 right?

I still cry every time I see Bryant. What could have been, but we still won it this year.

Seems like it couldn't have worked out pretty well for both Bryant and the Astros

I’d tell Appel that we will sign him, but strictly out of BP. Only allow him to throw fastballs and best of his breaking pitches. He throws 98 mph with above average breaking stuff. If you do that I see no way he doesn’t become a serviceable rp in mlb.

Yeah, he'll make it, IMO, especially if he decides to go the bullpen route.

Just never know though, sometimes starters have shite in their heads and if things don't work out they just go crazy mentally.

While true, that Sports Illustrated article laid out all the reasons the Astros thought you should avoid HS RHPs, and they did it anyway. They could have drafted Rodon in Aiken's place, or even Aaron Nola.

My ideal drafts at the time were Correa, Bryant and Rodon. Imagine Bryant peppering the shite out of the Crawford Boxes.

Of course if we drafted Bryant instead of Appel it would have meant no Bregman. Appel was considered polished and a likely quick riser when he was drafted. Having Appel probably lead to the willingness to take more of a risk with the high schooler Aiken in 2014. If we had drafted Correa in '12, Bryant in '13 then that probably leaves them in the position of wanting to take a college arm...enter Carlos Rodon.

Missing Bryant sucks. No GM is infallible.

With that said, would it surprise anyone that Bregman could win an MVP in the future?

World Series title
Possible MVP in the future

They made up for it.
