The Seattle Mariners and slugger Julio Rodriguez are finalizing a long-term contract extension that guarantees the rookie standout $210 million over 14 years and could be worth more than $400 million, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

The new contract includes player and team options, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Kinda early for a contract like this, isn’t it?

Depending on how this part is structured I don’t think it’s too early. I’m guessing there’s team and player options and a lot of performance incentives that bridge this gap. People will point to the Tatis deal, but it’s very possible he isn’t a moron like Tatis and he’s that same type of talent.

Alex Anthopelous once again shows how amazing he is. Got Acuna, Ozzie and Michael Harris combined for cheaper than this contract.

14 years is just for show. We all know if he continues to get better and is an all star for the next 5 years his agent will demand a new deal at the new market rate.

Yes because that happens all the time in baseball, can you tell me the last player that did that?

Contracts like this are good for baseball, as much as some of you hate them. Does anyone actually enjoy the Scott boras method of refusing extensions, spitting on the team that brought you up and eventually signing with a team in New York or LA?

As one of the few Mariners fans on this board, I support this move.
