ESPN

Step 1...Universal DH
Step 2...Universal Schedule
Step 3...Expansion
Step 4...Reorganization

I am 2/2 on the path MLB has currently taken. I was saying it a few years ago, that MLB adopting the Universal DH was just the first step in heading to a complete restructuring of MLB. None of what MLB really wants to do, can happen without those steps being implemented first. If anybody was paying attention, MLB just announced that starting in 2023, each franchise will play every other franchise in MLB. This is another step in that direction. This is a GREAT move!! This gives the fans MORE choice!! As a G-Unit fan (Not calling them Guardians or Guards), this is a long welcomed decision. I want to see them play the Dodgers, Braves, Cubs, Cards, Giants and also the local rivals Reds and Pirates...every season!!! This will be the norm for a few years and fans will love it. Then once the old set up is behind MLB and fans have adapted...the next step of expansion will happen (Manfred already said 32 teams is happening). At that time, MLB will use expansion as a tool to restructure the entire league...now that everyone has the DH and plays everyone anyway, right? How they restructure it will be the interesting part? But make no mistake about it...MLB is going to go through a MAJOR restructuring in the near future.

Will it be a basic Eastern/Western configuration...or do they do something more drastic like Major/Small market set up?? Or do you disagree and think they will keep the set up as it is? Thoughts?

Big Market:

New York Yankees
New York Mets
Boston Red Sox
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Toronto Blue Jays
Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels
San Francisco Giants
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
St Louis Cardinals
Houston Astros
Texas Rangers
Seattle Mariners

Small Market:

Cleveland Guardians
Baltimore Orioles
Pittsburgh Pirates
Cincinnati Reds
Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins
Milwaukee Brewers
Tampa Bay Rays
Kansas City Royals
Colorado Rockies
Arizona Diamondbacks
San Diego Padres
Las Vegas A's*
Nashville Stars*
Charlotte*

Or just a basic Eastern/Western split?

Eastern Conference:

NY Yankees
NY Mets
Boston Red Sox
Philadelphia Phillies
Toronto Blue Jays
Baltimore Orioles
Washington Nationals
Cleveland Guardians
Pittsburgh Pirates
Cincinnati Reds
Detroit Tigers
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Tampa Bay Rays
Nashville Stars*
Charlotte*

Western Conference:

LA Dodgers
LA Angels
SF Giants
Houston Astros
Texas Rangers
St Louis Cardinals
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Milwaukee Brewers
Minnesota Twins
Seattle Mariners
Kansas City Royals
Arizona Diamondbacks
Colorado Rockies
San Diego Padres
Las Vegas A's*

I have no idea what any of this is… seems like a dumb idea to make a dying sport even more confusing.

Less than 0 chance this ever happens

Eastern/Western

This is what I think happens, because odds are the two expansion teams are going to be out west or possibly borderline western. Nashville is often rumored for a team and its in the West in the NHL, for example.

No.

They will keep AL/NL and each will have 4 4-team divisions based on geography.

Essentially just like the NFL with the NFC and AFC.

Wish these morons would realize Dallas is not on either the east or west coast.

Yes, I hate that the Astros are in the AL West. Hopefully if Portland gets an expansion team the AL West will become Anaheim, Seattle, Las Vegas A's, and Portland. Then the Rangers and Astros can be in a a revised AL Central or a new AL South.

complete restructuring of MLB

frick Rob Manfred with a monkeypox infested cactus. Dude is doing everything he can to ruin the league.

Anyone with two functioning brain cells can see baseball's two biggest problems (too many commercials and lack of streaming options in local markets), yet Manfred avoids these topics like the plague.

That's what they will do. What they should do, is 4 8-team divisions. I think the A's move to Vegas and expansion happens in the east. If both new teams are in the east that's 16 eastern time zone, 8 central, 7 pacific plus Rockies. Even if one is Nashville, stick them in the east, same concept.

Would be optimal for game times and the division races for the 4 byes would be more compelling than what we have now. Can have the same money grab expanded playoff, but with a better regular season.

Sadly I think expansion will bring a 14 team playoff where the divisions matter about as much as they do in the NFL. Only interesting race will be for the 1 seeds.

An “AL South” with our two teams, Tampa (or hopefully Nashville) and KC would be the shite. I am so sick of the west coast games in this division.

I guess I'm a lone wolf on the expansion idea in that I don't really like it. MLB already struggles promoting its stars and young up-and-comers, it feels odd supporting an idea that waters that down even more.

I hope they go with 2 east/west conferences setup geographically -- 15 teams each, take the top 7 from both and have the bottom two teams play a wild card game. Those have been exciting since they were implemented.

I’m not a fan of it. I’d rather they move Oakland to Vegas, Tampa to Nashville and call it a day. The only silver lining for me is if it means even less west coast games for the Astros.

I agree. I think it's a terrible idea. MLB already struggles to fill out 30 rosters as it is.

Tampa (St. Pete) isn’t leaving that area unless it’s to actual Tampa.

Well good thing the Braves aren't the only ones with a say. Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Detroit are ALL within a 4hr window of each other. Some cities have TWO teams...i don't think that is going to matter...at all!!!
