Jokes aside, this is what I assumed happened. A decent number of the Eagles weren't coming, so just cancel and claim you disinvited them instead of embarassingly low turnout.

The press release has this weird anthem showdown first.

Then, it says the Eagles would have sent a smaller contingent (who agree to the anthem rules?), but that's not ok. Therefore it's better if zero Eagles come.

I'm just saying the Eagle turnout was gonna be low so the press release got generated with a lot of other stuff in it to camouflage that and act like it was Trump's decision.
