Kevin Love was due to make $16.7M next season. With 2015-16 salary cap at about $67.1M, Love, by opting out, can start at $18.9M next season
Sweet, thanks!

Fact: Love finished with a 26.9 PER in 2014 (same as Duncan’s 2003 MVP season, higher than Barkley’s MVP season, and higher than all three of Bird’s MVP seasons) and .245 win shares per 48 minutes (higher than Bird’s three MVP seasons, LeBron’s first Miami season and Barkley’s MVP season).

quote:

Fact: In 2014, Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Only Kareem, Wilt, Elgin and Billy Cunningham ever averaged 26, 12.5 and 4 in the same season. Nobody has achieved that feat in 38 years. Bird, Barkley, Baylor, Lucas and Malone never did it.

Fact: In 2014, Love averaged 6.6 3s per game (tied for fourth highest in the NBA, the same number as Klay Thompson and James Harden) and made 37.6 percent (better than Ray Allen, James Harden and Chandler Parsons). He also made 50.2 percent of his 2s and 82.1 percent of his free throws. Oh, and he finished third in the whole league in rebounding.

Fact: Love grabbed 12.5 rebounds per game in 2014, but he also became one of the 41 NBA players who hoisted 500 3s in one season. Of that group, no other player averaged more than 9 rebounds in that same season.

Love struggled just like Bosh did when he became the 3rd banana on LBJ's team. Love with thrive in Boston or LA as the #1 or #2 guy imo.

If they resign everyone they are going to surpass the Nets record for luxury tax payments. This is with Mozgov making only $5m next season.

If they give TT and Love the max they'll be paying TT, Love, Irving, and LeBron max money.

If we are gonna use the minny excuse for wiggins' inflated stats then the same can be said for love.

uh wiggins defends the most athletic positions in the league, and well.

Love doesn't defend shite.

Lebron will probably opt out then sit and wait til TT gets his contract, but I'd consider calling his bluff as I'm not so sure Lebron would actually leave CLE if they didn't offer TT max.

The Cavs actually have more leverage in this situation. It's pretty damn clear how obsessed LeBron is with his image, brand, and PR. If he leaves the Cavs again he will be absolutely CRUSHED.

Anyone got an idea what the Cavs can get for Love? I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard for them to get an All-Star back and/or maybe a good pick.

Not getting an All Star back and a good pick. The Cavs don't really even need an AS in return. Just get another ball handler so your backup pg isn't dellava-dleaguer

They aren't going to offer him a max deal unless some other team does which I think is highly unlikely.

Either way. I totally agree. He shouldn't make more than 10 mill. Especially coming off the bench. He's an elite rebounder, average defender, and below average offensive player.

I think the best things for the Cavs is to sign Love and TT up for long term deals and then deal one of them in the future. I would rather keep Love obviously.

I think Love is opting out and is planning on doing a deal similar to LeBrons (1 year guaranteed and then a player option year)

Rumors have been circulating for a while that he might want to sign up for a long term deal this year though even with the new CBA looming bc of his past with injuries but I find that highly unlikely.

Either way. I think he signs a 1 year deal with the Cavs and gives it another year. If Blatt and co. can't figure out a way to get him a little more involved in the offense then he will probably bounce.

I also really hope the Cavs don't let Shumpert leave and lock him up for a long term deal. Kid is good.

Just wait till the "Lebron opts out" thread on the MSB...

LeBron isn't gonna leave again

He will be opting out shortly though and then gonna let the Cavs make all their moves until they resign him to another 1 year deal.

Just to give everyone an idea of what he can make with the Cavs versus other teams:

Cavs- 5 years and ~110 mil

Another team- 4 years and ~81 mil

He could also make about 38M extra if he waits and signs the 5 year max next year. The 5 year deal isn't that beneficial this year.

Cavs could have Irving, James, Wiggins, and roughly the same amount of cash if they didnt act so quickly.

Just sayin..

Wiggins wouldn't have been anything but a bench player last year. He would have been a lesser version of Iman Shumpert. When you dumb fricks realize this you will understand why the Cavs traded him. They want to win championships NOW.

They just took the Warriors to game 6 with Kyrie and Love hurt. Imagine the outcome if they were healthy?

I guess they were supposed to know they're 2nd and 3rd best players would be injured and out for the playoffs/Finals?

I never was in favor of the Cavs pursuing Love the way they did. It felt like they were panicking. I would've liked for them to play until around the ASB to at least see what they had in Wiggins.
