What was the reason he left originally?
think he went after a job with more money.

He left because he asked for more money when the team was having significant national success and actually creating revenue with duel meets/tournaments. Unfortunately he went to the press with his complaints and it became pretty ugly. Pretty sure he had a couple of young kids as well and took a medical sales job to make more money.

Dauterive is easily one of the best motivators in the state in any sport. The guy simply gets kids to buy in and work their asses off. Hell of a coach.

Him and Pete Boudreaux from CHS. No one can turn average white kids into state track champions like he can. Both are unbelievable motivators.

Anyone know if individual state champs get a ring or just team champs?

Gibbons won 8-3. Hell of a wrestler, that's for sure.
Congrats to BM on their 13th state title!

When was the last time Catholic lost a track state meet?

I wouldn't go that far since he does get an unfair amount of talent. He definitely knows what he's doing, though, and he's a great motivator who knows how to get kids to stay committed year round.

Just looked it up. Apparently they're going for their 6th straight indoor state title this weekend, and their 5th straight outdoor state title later this year.
Unbelievable.

And they'll probably run away with the titles again this year (no pun intended)

True. But he still does more with a lot of those kids than almost any other coach in America could do. Yes, he has a couple of nationally ranked track stars, but when your second string relay teams could qualify for the state meet, you know you're having to really develop some outstanding athletes or otherwise you wouldn't have depth like that.

I'm not sure about that. My cousin was telling me a few months ago how the new disciplinarian kicked out their top 400m sprinter who was the state champion last year as a sophomore and was apparently nationally ranked, and then soon after their top 300m (or something like that) hurdler who was top 5 or something in the nation transferred...
I guess it would be a complete gimme like past years. I'd guess they took a hit.
ETA: Damn I miss Catholic.

Really? I hadn't heard much about that. I do know that they dominated last year and didn't lose many seniors. Most of their best runners were sophomores IIRC.
