99% of high schoolers still can't accelerate past 10 meters properly. 95% cannot properly accelerate past 3 steps at the angle and force off the ground required to accelerate at those angles. Not really something that needs to be measured just continuously taught and reinforced via step patterns and drills. It's a long forboding process which is why it's easily given up on for other quicker fixes
Well 99% are weak as piss and can’t accelerate because got track coaches that think you can teach steps when the first 10 yards is pure force and strength

That thought process is the reason why no one can accelerate lol. You can be the strongest person in the world but if you're angles both into the ground and through the ground are incorrect you're never going to produce to your force potential.
People are worried so much about taking that picture of the first step for social media not even looking at how the angle through the ground continues and how the angle of the second and third step ( all the way through 20) impacts the deceleration. It's not how much force you can produce. It's how you produce it through the ground.
Max velo is important and honestly the reason why feed the cats is somewhat successful in spurts is that it's incredibly under coached, but ignoring acceleration, short and long speed endurance etc isn't the play.
From what I see on Twitter holler himself often times doesn't really follow his system as strictly as what he expects most people to (I think he's too busy trying to prove that it works for the 400). Honestly in part that might be why his sprints team is kind of bad even at the d3 Illinois high school level that he's at. I think the only Sprints points he got last year was from a 4x4 that had two 800 kids in it ( in direct opposition to his philosophy)

See thing is, can only hold the angle as long as you are able to put forth enough force at that angle that keeps you from falling over.
I agree 100% about angles, just imo the way to get there is through getting strong AF off a 12” box, reverse lunges and lots of heavy arse sled drags/pushes getting strong and working those angles

I agree max velo is very important and under trained
As far as Tony, I don’t expect anyone to follow his system exactly, more the concepts. He has had tons of success in the past and years he didn’t get really anything
I just think he did a good job of getting people to understand speed work is speed work and you can’t just run kids into the ground just to get them in shape and expect them to get much faster
I’m more of Charlie Francis and westside guy myself. Use tech o find weakness and attack it. I’m not a weight room only guy by any means, I just think it’s the lowest hanging fruit for 90% of kids. Even those that do it though many times fat frick themselves and do not end up any faster. That is why testing is training. Test, access, train, teat again and repeat process

American distance running started putting out more competitive dudes in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I remember watching Solinsky break 27 for the 10k and was thinking how insane that was back then. New US record now 26:33.
Speaking of Jesuit, knowing the coach and just enough about the guys that come out of the program, it's all a combination of quality coaching, quality athletes who want to be coached and pushed that actually put in the effort, and the technology. You realistically should not find many kids in the gulf coast wanting to be distance runners running sub-9 3200m races. The training environment is miserable for the work needed for distance events. There are still a lot of people from the state that run at a high level in high school.

A fun one to watch will be Carter Rivet. From Alexandria. Threw discus 167 yesterday and shot 59. He is a freshman.

we aren't running kids into the ground anymore because the knowledge of training has improved a lot.
I still see plenty of this. These parents and coaches will tell you it's the kid's choice. Even if true, they surely aren't stepping in to stop them.

Well he is a damn good golfer.
I am pretty sure that is top throw for the state this year. Kaden Adams from Central Lafourche threw over 58 foot earlier this year and was the top throw at the time.

Will anyone beat West Monroe’s Talley in the javelin? He was the top freshman in the country last year and before someone tries to diminish him, no he did not holdback.
Posted on 5/1/25 at 12:18 pm to JJ27
you mean you dont get held back for track and field ?

Is there any way to watch 5a state live online?
Posted on 5/1/25 at 1:27 pm to alterego55
I’m sure there are some, he ain’t one.
Posted on 5/1/25 at 4:14 pm to JJ27
I don't think anyone will beat him unless he has a meltdown. I see the Rivet kid had a bad regional. At least he qualified though.
Not that I know of but it may be on milesplit.
