Winning the Southland is not the same as winning the Sun Belt

Nicholls been pretty good all year.

Lamar and Mcneese play in elimination game tomorrow. Winner plays Nicholls

Will be interesting to see how much pitching either McNeese or (especially) Lamar will have to go up against Nicholls

Lamar, the regular season champ, will have essentially played 2 more games than Nicholls... though that Cardinal offense can absolutely rake

1 Lamar guy hit 5 home runs over 2 games today... the team itself scored 18 runs in both games they played today... not 18 combined... 18 in each game

ETA: the final is 1 game winner-take-all... but Nicholls has to be a heavy favorite against either McNeese or Lamar

Lamar has some nice out of conference wins

Nicholls did beat the. 2 of 3 regular season, but all three were close and two I think we extras. Also played in Thibodaux.

Nicholls has lots of older experienced players. Remember last year Alabama hosting beat Nicholls 1-0 in first round of regionals. Nicholls if they win will be tough out.

Don’t get the winner take all when the full tourney was double elimination.

This discussion was actually had in-stadium yesterday...

Coaches agreed to it b/c at this point in the tournament every team is running low on pitching and having to possibly play a 2nd game in the finals would cause some decisions on pitchers who already have heavy work on their arms during the week

This is the last year of this format in the Southland anyway... next year it goes to a regional/super regional format

ETA: that comes with the SLC adding at least 1 and maybe a 2nd member for next year

Texas-Rio Grande Valley is already confirmed and I think Sam Houston (or Stephen F. Austin... I'm blanking on which) is expected to be announced as joining the SLC again soon

Is it possible that some teams could play 7 games in this tournament format?

LA Tech game two v. Liberty starts at 7:30 tonight on ESPN+.

Both have to be low on pitchers, so it could be interesting.
