Well it is basically religion in Canada…

Another stat about Hartford, Connecticut has the 6th highest median household income in the country.

Yet 3 southern cities(Miami, Raleigh & Dallas) have teams in the conference finals.

Your reasoning makes no sense.

Are you suggesting that the location of the team plays a factor in how good they are or will be and that other good teams being in *insert region* should factor into where a team moves because they too will be good because of the region?

If so, that's one of the dumbest things I've read on this board in a while.

Supposedly there's no NHL team in WI because of the Blackhawks ownership.

That's a rumor that's not true. It'd be an awesome rivalry if it ever happened.

quote:

And that's not all. "We would have had a bad team," Phil contends. "I did a mock draft and showed the Pettits the players we were going to get, and we were going to have a bad team." The Pettits withdrew their letter of intent, and the NHL expanded to Ottawa and Tampa Bay. And Phil's instincts were correct - both franchises had abysmal initial seasons in the NHL before improving in subsequent years. "We just decided it would be a bad business deal," he concludes.

As for whether Blackhawks management could have impacted the Milwaukee bid, Phil says it's likely the Admirals' owners would have been required to indemnify - or compensate - their Chicago rivals. But an official figure was never determined, because the Milwaukee bid never got far enough along.

No.

The guy I was responding to seemed to think that hockey can't be successful in southern cities and thus, the NHL should expand to northern cities. That was my counter.

You can have a successful team anywhere if you build correctly and have the right leadership.

Maybe the owner of the Suns should buy the team and build a new arena in Scottsdale for both of them

Successful meaning the business itself, not whether or not the team will have good seasons.

A franchise can have good seasons and not be "successful" (Tampa Bay Rays come to mind) and conversely the business can be successful with crappy teams (lots of those).
