“Jahvid is as fine a person and professional as I have ever worked with,” Lions Executive Vice-President of Football Operations and General Manager Martin Mayhew said. “He was the consummate teammate and always did everything asked of him. We wish Jahvid the very best in all his future endeavors and have no doubt that he will be successful in whatever path he chooses.”

Didn't he have a massive concussion?

Doubt he ever plays in the NFL again. No team wants to touch him.

I think they are more worried about other teams touching him

If you're not getting the green light after 1+ YEARS after your last concussion you're likely not getting it. Dude needs to stay away from football.

It has made me wonder what they notice about him that's keeping him from clearance.

Like, is there slurred speech, motor skills, what is it? My curiosity wants to know how bad these guys' heads are getting scrambled.

That's really too bad. One of my favorite players while at Cal, he was electric.

I'm sure it's probably nothing THAT recognizable in everyday life. They're probably just doing a full neuro work up.

The lions are hurting jahvid's cause of action against the nfl for failing to protect him from concussions.

With all these lawsuits, no doctor wants to be the one to clear him to play.

No, he says he feels completely normal, that's why he wants to come back. I believe he was never cleared because tests show he still has some memory issues. I think he never tested back to the level he was at before the last concussion. He needs to retire from contact sports.

A little known fact is that the week before the Oregon State game, Jahvid was diagnosed with a "minor" concussion, but was cleared to play for the next game. Having two concussions so close together is supposed to be a really bad thing. He was presumably cleared to play because he passed all his tests, therefore was supposedly out of the danger zone, but some researchers are not convinced playing so soon after a concussion is OK, no matter what the tests show. Jahvid didn't play the last 4-5 games of the season, and went right to the draft. A lot of Cal fans who knew his history wanted him to retire and not go pro. Unfortunately this is something that we saw coming.

didn't they keep him on the roster this year so he would be eligible for pension? Thought he retired last year and that was the case

That's likely the issue. No team doctor wants to sign off on him.

Really shitty deal for him.
