Why wouldn’t he just go to his huddle?

Because there wasn’t a huddle. He went and said something to his teammates and they went straight to the LOS where the rest of the team was already lining up.

Everyone already knew the playcall.

They announced over the PA that 70 was eligible, why didn’t they call a timeout?

They didn’t have one. Even still, that’s not the Lions’ fault.

You’re trying way to hard to blame the Lions for the officials’ frick up.

He was probably making sure Decker had reported.

I see that now but still they knew it was going to be a penalty. They had 25 seconds of playclock to work with on that play.

Refs totally fricked up this play.

I really don’t care either way and think it’s a very interesting situation/conversation. But after thinking through it - IF a team is gonna do some odd/tricky eligible/ineligible combos, they need to make damn sure the official knows exactly who is eligible. It’s 100% on the team running the play to make sure the official knows exactly who is eligible and who is not if you’re gonna do something weird that you haven’t done all game.

And IMO it should be illegal for 3 lineman to approach the referee in that situation. If the official did in fact get confused, I can absolutely see why. Of course he got confused.

So the players are now supposed to listen to the PA announcement to make sure the ref didn’t frick up who was eligible?

The players that can barely hear what each other says when they’re standing a foot from each other?

I’ll say it again, you’re trying way to hard to try and blame the Lions for the official fricking up.

It's basic reporting as eligible. The ref shouldn't have messed it up as badly as he did.

You mean like sending the player who’s going to be eligible to report as eligible directly to the official who’s supposed to know?

This happens multiple times in every single game. This is the first time I can remember the wrong player being reported by the official.

Goodell clearly wants Dallas vs Mahomo and Taylor for viewership. They will try to get it that way.
you guys need to stfu with this.
Why would they then call a penalty on Dallas the very next play and make it easier for Detroit again.

#70 fricked over the Lions here, why is he so far from the refs on this play after a TD, the other “guards and tackles” are barking at the ref well within earshot but 70 is way off. They knew they were going for two and DC had them practice this situation, you have to make very clear with the refs on who is eligible.

#70 runs in after the group with the people reporting as eligible and flashes in front of his jersey that he is eligible too. Ref takes this as he is the guy eligible out of the 6 OL and reports it to the defense since they were getting ready to line up. Detroit is banking on the confusion from the ref to possibly report to the Dallas defense but having two potential Tackles eligible in a 6-man front should be enough to throw them off.

Everything you just said is complete horseshite. The Lions aren’t to blame for the ref fricking this up.

Yeah, that’s why they called that tripping penalty against the Cows to make it 1st and 25 with 2:05 to play.

It should be pointed out that the Cowboys took a timeout before the initial 2-pt try.

The Lions had PLENTY of time to tell the official exactly who was reported as eligible. There was no “rush”… it was coming out of a Cowboys timeout.

And there was 100% a Detroit huddle before the play

LINK

Just watch it live, don’t look at twitter screenshots … it’s all right there. Clearly 70 tells the official something.

Dan Campbell said post game he explained the play to the officials before the game.

There is video of Dan Campbell screaming “I TOLD YOU” over and over again at the ref after the penalty was called

The ref fricked up by mixing up the two numbers, that’s the only (simple) explanation that makes sense.

#68 is on record saying “I reported”
#70 is on record saying “I didn’t say a word to the official”
The ref is on record saying “#70 reported and #68 did not”

Well if you watch the live video to the end 70 clearly told the official something (see my link above)

So he’s clearly lying, cause the video shows he 100% told the official something

Most people won’t watch it til the end tho I’m sure

You have a time stamp of #70 where you can see his mouth talking to the official? Where are you seeing this?

Here’s him right after the play screaming I didn’t say a fricking word

Here’s Dan Campbell saying I told you! over and over, presumably about how he discussed this trick play prior to the game
