does this team have a legit shot at getting to the dome? Or is it going to be the usual quaterfinal/semifinal run, then run into West Monroe and get shellacked story?
5A is as wide open as it has been in a very long time. Most of the top 14 in the power rankings have a chance to make a run to the Dome.
01) 16.08 St Paul
02) 15.89 Jesuit
03) 15.44 Byrd
04) 15.20 Dutchtown
05) 14.88 Rummel
06) 14.56 West Monroe
07) 13.98 Carencro
08) 13.86 Brother Martin
09) 13.80 Parkway
10) 13.67 Mandeville
11) 13.40 Ouachita
12) 13.11 Acadiana
13) 12.90 Haughton
14) 12.84 Barbe

No, that was the Katrina year.

Marquise Hill!
nah, he was a tall skinny freshman in 97. He was a lot tougher to block as a sophomore in 98. And I'm sure nearly impossible in 99 and 2000 but luckily I didn't have to deal with him then.

That's good to hear. I have heard that Dutchtown is really really good. I know a little about St. Paul's too, but I'd imagine a game between them and Jesuit would be pretty competitive.

Yeah... Believe I have my yrs mixed up... That '97 DLS squad had a very good offense with a stud at QB... Hill & the other kid made their presence known in '99/'00...

I just found my "Be the Hammer, Not the Nail" Shirt at my parent's house. Great times in 1997. Although, I think our best chance to get to the Dome was in 1996 when we faced Carencro in the Semi-Finals.
I just found my Jesuit o-line warthog shirt a few weeks ago.
Between Damien James offense and kick returns, and Altony Davis' 25 tackles, I'm surprised we kept it close.
The 6-3 loss to Ruston in 98 stings the most, since we lost our QB early and Ruston stacked the box and we went 0-11 in the passing game. Jack Hunt scored for Ruston on a fake punt (or was it fake FG?).

STAUG95,
Name the four horsemen from the 94 squad.

The Jays would really need to have Dobbins and Jones (linebacker who also comes in as a receiver) to make plays against the Wolves defense. Jesuit can do a bit more on offense, but StP has a better defense.

You're right, I just looked it up. They went undefeated in 2004 and lost to East St John in the regional playoffs. Not sure how I forgot about that.

Wow, I didn't realize it was Jack Hunt! It was a fake punt early in the second quarter. Then Rittner (I think?) got hurt. Jesuit wins that game with a healthy QB but that date with West Monroe in the Dome would have been ugly.

That was the 1st time I saw Ryan Perriloux live, he was unbelievable.

Jesuit did a nice job overall on Ryan Perriloux, but the offense couldn't get cranked up enough (20-14). Jays would have had to play Evangel the next week though.

yeah, the fake FG was Rummel a few weeks earlier...we needed some better defensive special teams that season

D-Town is solid, but I think they will go down if they get matched up against an athletic team. A team like West Jeff or Westgate again would give them a lot of trouble.

Sounds like Rummel's QB is hurt.
