Franklin has produced a lot of talents especially in the 80's and 90's. west st Mary has also produced a few, which was once Franklin. Per enrollment for public schools, I can almost bet money that Patterson produces more college football players than any other on LA and is possibly in the country.

They have a few state runner-up trophies I believe. No championships in football. They do in basketball.
Looking at the current college football rosters they have several playing college ball. They might have 400 kids in the school. Current football players playing:

So when the jacks play those private schools boys, in the trenches they struggle, but always compete bc of their big play ability.

acadia parish.. produces an awful lot.. and I think over the years.. every football playing school has at least appeared in a state title game.
of course so does ouchita..
I think EBR did pass orleans a few years back as having the most college signees(live in the parish not just going to school there)
heck you could write a book on it... I mean this is a state - an entire state of great athletes and teams...
and integration changed a lot of the landscape..
if you look at where sports have been consistently successful - there are two simple common denominators....
coaching staff stability - and community support.
and BR is so fragmented no area... can really stand out.... I mean in the 80s you had kids living in the same HOUSE going to different public schools and playing against each other...

I was only kidding.. I'm from Mandeville and realize it's not the worst area when it comes to athletic success, in fact, in some sports, it's near the top.

I'll rank 'em by metro areas, per capita:
1. Monroe
2. New Orleans
3. Lafayette
4. Shreveport
5. Baton Rouge
6. Lake Charles
7. Houma/Thibodaux
8. Alexandria/CenLa
If Tangipahoa were a "metro" region, I'd have it somewhere right around BR and Shreveport because the Kentwoods and Amites are always really good. It's just kind of a no-man's land area that's not quite BR Metro and not quite Nola Metro and not quite a metro of its own.
Lafayette has had a good run with the Acadiana and Carencro teams, Breaux Bridge and STM in 4A, Notre Dame in 3A. For a smaller metro, it's really good.
BR people are probably pissed, but face it: EBR football is largely putrid and so is Livingston. Ascension has some fantastic players, but the teams underachieve. It's sad to me that most of the good teams to come out of the area are 3A and 2A private schools. A metro area of 800k needs to pick select teams to dominate towns of 5k-8k people.
New Orleans and Shreveport are much the same, although their small-school powers would dominate the bigger schools if they are allowed.

Baton Rouge produces players more than teams.
Catholic has a good quarterfinal type program most years. Zachary, Central, Scotlandville and Denham have good programs, but usually you can count on them being done by Thanksgiving.
And don't get me started on Dutchtown.
And, if not for Lutcher being in the district, this would probably be the weakest 4A district in the state. Maybe Plaquemine will improve it, but EBR is so anti-athletics with their higher academic requirements and coaching staff limits, they may never win another state title from the public schools here. Maybe Zachary and Central or if Woodlawn breaks off into an ISD.
I'm afraid Zachary and Central won't grow enough to grow significantly as schools. If you work in south BR, that's a hell of a commute to go out there. Limits the people who will have motivation to move out there and grow those school districts.

I really am amazed that BR area doesn't do more. Isn't it now the biggest metro area? Since Katrina? I don't know the stats for people but it would seem logical.

I think for its population Lincoln Parish (Ruston/Grambling) has to be up there. Definately not tops but up there. At one point in the early 2000s there were more active NFL players from Ruston High than any other school in the nation. #2 was one of the big football factories in CA. From my team alone (94-95) there were 3 players that went on to long careers in the NFL.
