This year's bracket has the most parity since the split due to the increased number of public schools moved to select divisions.

Making the playoffs used to mean something. It doesn’t anymore. It’s a joke with the split.

Yeah, Holy Cross was #1 seed last year in D1 Select, and this year they ended up #25, first team out. Nice to see the larger group of teams in select. A lot better than the 12 team bracket when the split started.

That was always a bummer

You'd have the Catholic League, Catholic BR, Byrd and maybe Scotlandville in those years.

ETA looked up a bracket - also McKinley

They just changed that two years ago now

They probably still could reduce the brackets to 16 teams each, but at least no one is automatically getting in anymore just for fielding a team

You right. It feels like every year there’s a surprise team that no one remembered moved into the select brackets

It’s basically everyone that’s private, Catholic, magnet, charter, open enrollment… now there’s more select than nonselect

They have actually only been to the LHSAA playoffs 3 other times outside of these years, 1992,1996,1997.

I know they had a rough year this year, but I'm surprised St. Charles Catholic is only at 24 years.

My high school is one missed year (2009) from being at 30 years.
Think they were 4-6 or 5-5 and were like 33 in the power rankings.

That’s impressive for three little towns tucked away in various corners of the state. The talent level at small schools can swing drastically from year to year.

Plus, they aren’t only making the playoffs, most years they’ve had deep playoff runs.
