Give me names of athletes who were 19 this past football season. Otherwise you are just repeating stuff other people have said. And as far as the 18 thing, when did 18 not become the standard age of graduation? I graduated at 17 and was always the youngest or next to youngest in my grade.

That's a pretty weak argument. If that information was sought, I'm pretty sure student privacy laws would be invoked to prevent giving it out.

It would be kind of interesting to see a full blown trial of these types of issues with full discovery - interrogatories, depositions, etc. Heck, maybe if some of the schools threatening litigation go ahead with it we'll see something like that.

I the meantime, we can only rely on common sense, what we know of human nature, life experience, etc. to reach what we each feel are the most likely answers to these questions. It seems highly unlikely that any team would win something like 21 out of 25 championships without something other than stellar coaching and random draw of high caliber student athletes being involved.

How about the number of 18 year olds? When we played curtis for the state championship(a long time ago), I was probably one of the oldest kids on our team(17). JCC was the only team in the finals that did not put the age of their players in the program. I wonder why.

BTW, I am not for the split, but I don't like people defending JCC and others by saying everyone does it.

it ain't hard to figure out how old a kid is if they have played UTRIP baseball or AAU basketball.......

while the number of 19s may be small - the number of hold backs is high........

I'll most likely hold my son back due to his Sept bday, and not wanting him to turn 17 into his senior year. But if we do it, it will be in Kindergarten, not 5th grade, that makes no sense to wait till 5th grade to do it. I'm glad they at least moved it back to 5th grade, but even then that makes no sense. I still remember when WMHS had 42 in one class in 8th grade repeat... that one should shame any community, and I think is why the rule changed

My oldest son turned 18 the same week he finished all his classes for his senior year. Never even occurred to me that I should hold him back. He was starting on the OL at 16, going against kids from Curtis that he said all looked like college sophomores.

WMHS does not have an 8th grade....but the number of hold backs is probably right once they get there

All that tells me is your son doesn't know what college sophomores look like and also that your best evidence is anecdotes.

Well considering he is a college sophomore I hope he knows what one looks like. Typical Curtis apologist. So are you associated with them, or one of the leaders of the cowards that made sure to vote them off your island?

Judging from everyone else's responses to you, you are the only one on an island.

So,which are you-Curtis, or never had to play Curtis?

And I'm sure I'm not on an island jackass-what has this entire upheaval in the statewide association been about? No one wanting to play the college kids at Curtis. With Winnfield's principal leading the charge, having made it her personal mission to ensure her kids never had to play them again. Nothing more. Maybe you've not been paying attention?

I'm actually laughing at your post. Everyone sees this move as potentially destroying high school football in LA and all you are worried about is some nonsense about your son. Give me some hard facts about the teams you have personal vendettas against or get a new story.

I played on a team that got bounced by private schools three consecutive seasons and watched em get bounced by another my senior year (parkview in qrtrs, parkview in dome, st charles in rd 2, and notre dame in rd 1).

The first three teams were capable of winning state titles and the last wad meh.

I hate the whole premise behind this split crap with a passion. To be the best you have to beat the best, not run from them.

That's such bullshite. If the LHSAA really wanted to do things fairly, they should split regular season as well as playoffs up. After 3 years, we can see who still has programs, the private schools that provide 80% of every gate, or the public school that has 200 people max at their games. frick the LHSAA. Public schools want to have their cake and eat it too.

Notice you still didn't answer my question. And fwiw, I see way beyond personal impact. It absolutely could destroy hugh school athletics, even beyond football. The fact remains, this is all, 100%, totally driven by Curtis, and to a lesser degree, ECA's football factories. I've said repeatedly, I'm resigned to the fact that my kids will have been through 6 years between them of starting on teams slotted with Curtis. We didn't want to play them any more than every other team in the state didn't want to play them. And an entire governing association was torn asunder over that one team.

Remind me again why are you defending them?

You have that backwards. 24 was the most WM ever had.

How was the notre dame team that finished second in the state meh? They beat basically every team that people said they would lose to except Parkview.
