there was the time we filmed a jamboree game in our own stadium and the LHSAA gave us a slap on the wrist...

the main punishment will be because destrehan lied to the investigators... forfeiture of one game might not be enough. obviously you don't want to punish the kids but a program is everyone involved in it, not just the kids, but coaches, parents, fans, school administration, etc.

I agree on not punishing the kids.... but you have to think...

If the coaches were teaching them to react on SL's signals, movements, etc... wouldn't the kids have known something was up too?

As many as five assistant coaches face suspension, four for one game and another indefinitely for Destrehan’s home football game Friday night against H.L. Bourgeois, after a meeting of the St. Charles Parish School Board on Tuesday, sources have told Riverparishfootball.com.

The suspensions stem from an accusation by South Lafourche High School officials that members of the Destrehan football coaching staff improperly viewed Tarpons practice video via the Hudl website. The Hudl website stores information such as game film. Game film can be shared by various teams but items such as practice film are password protected.

Riverparishfootball.com was unable to reach either Destrehan head football coach Stephen Robicheaux or principal Stephen Weber on Wednesday morning.

An official ruling by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association is expected as early as later today.

maybe, but let's say there was no Hudl involved, and Destrehan still got wind of the gameplan... there are ways they can legally do it

good point.. i think rather than punishing the kids, just make them forfeit a game and suspend coaches involved for a year.

Here is what Henderson has to say about it

quote:

LHSAA commissioner Kenny Henderson said a ruling could be made sometime Wednesday. He said this is the first time a situation like this has occurred involving game film footage on Hudl.

“This is brand new. We’ve never had anything like this before,” Henderson said. “We’re approaching it like any other investigation. We’re getting all the information that we can. Once we feel like we’ve got everything we need, we’ll make a decision. We’ll call both schools that are involved and let them know what’s going on and go from there.”

While he admitted to not knowing much about the website, Henderson said teams usually have arraignments set up to exchange two or three game tapes with other schools. However, there are sections of the Hudl website that are password protected and unauthorized.

“This is not information that is shared like it would be if you and I were at a ball game and we agreed to share our film,” Henderson said. “This is information that was not supposed to be shared. It’s a little bit different situation from just sharing film.”

Henderson said LHSAA officials visited Destrehan on Monday to investigate the situation, and they are looking at the case under the association’s sportsmanship rules.

“If I have to make a ruling, I’ll rely on our handbook to make those rulings and advise me in that matter,” Henderson said. “This particular case is not brought up in black-and-white in the handbook, and so I’m going to have to follow the book to see where I’m going to hit with that. If we treat it as a sportsmanship, then I’m going to be looking at what the handbook says about sportsmanship, and we’ll go from there.”

For his reference on sportsmanship rules he refers to

I laugh at someone saying being put in select as a punishment. Although, Catholic BR beat dutchtown almost as bad as Destrehan. Personally, I haven't seen Destrehan play this year but I don't think they are unbeatable. Dutchtown was Destrehans only win against a team with a winning record. There are plenty of teams out there that could beat Destrehan and the fact that the coaches feel like they have to cheat to beat South Lafourche of all teams tells me that they may not be as confident as you are.

Members of the Destrehan High School football staff have been suspended after they were accused of hacking into a website containing detailed information on the South Lafourche High School football program prior to last Friday’s game.
Officials for St. Charles Parish Pubic Schools would not say how many coaches were suspended and would not release their names.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) and South Lafourche High School (SLHS) Principal Gaye Cheramie said local law enforcement agencies are looking into the matter as well.

quote:

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has also begun an investigation into the matter, which they called a criminal act.

Cheramie said after viewing the game tape it became obvious to the Tarpons coaching staff that Destrehan knew what plays they were going to run before they ran them.

“During the game it seemed unusual. As soon as our quarterback would call a play Destrehan’s defense would start moving, almost before our offense could move. But in the heat of the game you think about it, but you move on,” she said. “When our coaches broke down the game tape Friday and Saturday, it became obvious (Destrehan) knew our game plan and on our HUDL account they have everything, the playbook, the cadence, everything.”

Cheramie refused to say how the school found out that their HUDL account was hacked, but they have evidence to support it. The school then alerted the LHSAA to the alleged infraction.

quote:

St. Charles Parish Public Schools also released a statement saying they launched their own investigation.

“As soon as the concerns were brought to our attention, an internal investigation was conducted. The information gathered from our internal investigation was then sent to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Any actions that jeopardize the integrity of the school system or Destrehan High School will not be tolerated. The investigation by the LHSAA is ongoing; therefore we are unable to comment any further at this time,” Stevie Crovetto, director of public information, said.

Wasn't serious about putting them in non-select. I do think non-select is tougher. The bottom 10-12 in 5A this year are going to be BAD. The top 5-6 teams shouldn't be challenged until the quarterfinals.

I saw Destrehan play Dutchtown. Dutchtown played them close the first half and then made some turnovers and got rolled in the second.

I saw some of Dutchtown and Catholic on TV. Catholic beat them down from the first whistle. Dutchtown came back and made it respectable but it was pretty bad.

When I was in HS someone taped our monday practice and sent it to the team we were playing that week. Though I still don't know why considering that team probably would have beat us pretty handily anyway.

you can thank the split for that because teams 33-42 will all make the playoffs (all 10 select teams would make it as of this week)

Kegg...glad to see a fellow SL alum on here. I'm class of '08.
Back to the topic at hand. I'll say this much just like several posters, why did they feel the need to do it? Destrehan has a damn strong team. SL gave them a good fight in the 1st half and have had a track record for playing big against big time players, (they upset East St. John in Perriloux's Senior season and upset LaRon Landry when Hahnville was #1 in the state.) Both games were at SL. They've always played big time in big showdowns down in Galliano.
