Let me be the first to say St. Thomas Aquinas will upset Riverside.

I hope anyway.

That offense that they all run (doesn't ND run some version too?)

Notre dame runs a pro style offense and has plenty of depth.

To me the difference from last year to this year with ND is that they have better O Line play. They have reloaded at RB after they lost Broussard and Thibodeaux. They can still pass a little to keep people honest too. That is my take although I watched them a lot more last year than I have this year.

I think they can beat PBS in Crowley for sure. Now I'm not sure on U High and obviously a betting man bets on JC if ND gets that far.

Without Duece, anything is possible. Plus, they can already be looking towards Episcopal.

They lost to a 4-6 South Plaq team b/c they couldn't do anything offensively.

They did very little in the second half. And we weren't at full strength on defense. That offense that they all run (doesn't ND run some version too?) is tough to figure out at the start of a game when you only have a few days to practice for it.

holding penalties.. that only went one way -went a long way in helping this.. as did 3 fumbles.... if it was Holding on PBS.. it should have been holding on cubs as well... if not hands to the face(on long pass plays)

imagine parkview's execution with bigger, stronger, faster players... and more of them.

PBS wasn't at full strength either....

The main concern for us. Probably the best starting unit since Mahaffey has been here, but the least depth. I still think our team that got edged out by Calvary when my oldest son was a senior had the most depth, as this year's big senior class were contributing as sophomores.

this will be a huge issue vs ND, sTm and especially JC

QB one of the most under rated players out there...

A head coach that has seen all of em play.. told me he thinks JC is 4-5 TDs better than anyone in division... and they get original QB back too..

What are the best shots at upsets in 5A nonselect?

I'd go top 5:

1. St. Amant over ESJ
2. Ehret over Mandeville
3. Comeaux over Central
4. Thibodaux over Zachary
5. Airline over Covington

I don't know how much Abbey will be able to get back in the short amount of time till the state meet. Good thing is the defense is maturing and by state should be the normal well oiled machine. I don't think U-High or STM can beat them this year simply because JC can afford to play their game and avoid mistakes while the other team makes them. Don't underestimate how much that early tough schedule will help them in the semis and state.

The top half of that 5-A non select bracket is unreal. Parkway has a cakewalk to the dome in that bottom bracket. I don't see them having to travel being an issue.

UHigh's biggest problem is in the trenches. They are as skilled on the outside as any team in the state but PBS showed that you can pound the ball between the tackles against them. JC can do this in droves.

I haven't heard either way. STA is any luck this season whatsoever from being 9-1.

I think it's going to be a huge issue by the third game. They got a lucky draw with Shreve in round one. The only other teams within 4 hours of them in their half of the bracket are Airline (who probably won't make it deep enough to play them) and West Monroe. 8-12 hour round trips in back to back weeks will be hard on high school players.

Considering this might be our best team in the past several years (at least in the starting lineup) and from the couple games I've seen (on TV), not the strongest team Curtis has fielded over that same time, I'm a bit amused by the notion they would beat us by 4-5 touchdowns. I might be wrong, but they didn't beat us that bad the two times my oldest son's teams got sent to play them in their home stadium. Considering they were voted as National champions in 2010 and 2012, one might say others would say this isn't their strongest team. Having their starting QB back will be huge, although I guess it depends on how much he's been able to practice since going out.

And choupique, are you really going to say that U-High got all the calls from the refs, AT Parkview, and that is why we won?? I really thought you were better than that.

Guess that's why you line up and play. Our path to the Dome is anything but easy, but I'd like to take a healthy team in there to play. I think we would be a tougher out than you guys seem willing to give us credit for. Nick has been an out and out warrior in big games over his career, and we've got a couple of X factors we might not have had in the past. I'm just enjoying the last ride like this I'll get to take as far as it takes me. Those rides back from Shreveport have been long the past two years, especially last year.

Right now IF it goes as favored, they have to go to Laplace, New Iberia and West Monroe. Next week is 5 hours either way, Laplace or St. Amant.

I agree. Not to mention, they are looking at New Iberia in the 3rd round who has already beaten Barbe this year. Barbe & Parkway are very similar teams & I would expect New Iberia to match up very well. I don't see Parkway being able to go to New Iberia and win.
