The more I look at the brackets the split is ridiculous. There's a 31 seed that went 11-21 with a mediocre schedule in the semis in 4A. That shouldn't happen.
Without the split taking a few 4A teams out of the bracket Westgate wouldn't even be in Sulphur

I agree. I mean, they did upset the #2 seed in opening game so yeah I’d say they definitely belong there

All set up by the 1 game opening round. Perfect storm of upsets allowed them to play teams that probably wouldn’t have even made the playoffs if not for the split. Anyone can win 1 game in baseball. Not their fault, they’re just playing by the rules they were given.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

11-1 in game 2... STA outscores Menard 19-1 over two games... this wasn't even close.

I always got a laugh out of how Notre Dame pulled some strings and got the 3A championship put in Miller Stadium for all those years in the 2000s and Notre Dame never made it. Plus how their big football rival Parkview won it every time.
The kept being beat by Menard in the quarters.

With the exception of 5A, the non-select (public school) brackets are garbage. None of the remaining 16 teams in 1A thru 4A would even be in the playoffs any longer if there were no split.
Of course, the Select Schools obviously have recruited all those average size white kids to play Baseball giving them a distinct advantage over the Non-Selects.

yeah idk 4A still has some good teams. Cant really tell much from Division II teams beating up on lesser competition

Teurlings Catholic who is still alive started the season with 10 straight games against 5A public teams... and went 4-6. Pretty sure West Ouchita or Deridder is as good as that

Several of these teams left were regularly making deep playoff runs and a couple were in state titles the last year everyone was together. I agree the split sucks but the championship games are still between pretty damn good teams.

WO lost to Teurlings 3-2 in the championship 2 years ago. He's definitely exaggerating a bit.

WO has multiple D1 pitchers. Yes, they would still be there.

Since when is PBS 4A? Weren’t they always 3A before the split? Good for them to show growth.

I umpire a lot of travel baseball on the I-10 corridor from lake Charles to Baton Rouge. It is crazy to me how many teams have a core group of kids that play together from coach pitch and then all go to the same high school. This is mostly in SW Louisiana. I guess it explains the SWLA dominance in baseball. It sort of reminds me of how Curtis is with football.

Yep it helps big time...
I feel like baseball as a whole in NOLA is a little tainted by this.. kids grow up playing as a core group, then once high school starts, the groups split up to 4-5 different schools.. I know we see it in BC all the time. We constantly lose kids to Rummel, Jesuit, Curtis, BM,, DLS, etc... hell, Karr is after one of our football players right now

That WM team last year that went 38-3 had a core that played together since they were 8. They lost some to OCS, St. Fred's, and Cedar Creek though as well.
