When it was noticed nothing was said cause he was like 0-4. However it was challenged after a HR from my understanding. Supposedly the LHSAA official didn’t understand what the ump was trying to tell him via phone.

Just quoting the article. How a coach or LHSAA official missed the NFHS website is really amazing to me.

Decertified non-wood baseball bat --- effective immediately
By NFHS Staff on January 08, 2015
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has advised us that the BBCOR decertification process has been implemented for the Marucci CAT5 33-inch model.
Effective immediately and until further notice, this bat (Marucci CAT5 33" length) should be considered a non-compliant bat and subject to NFHS Baseball Rules 4-1-3b and 7-4-1a. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your local state association statewide baseball rules interpreter.
Rule 4 ART. 3 . . .

Inaddition, each coach shall verify that his participants are using only legal equipment, including bats that are unaltered from the manufacturer's original design and production and that meet the provisions of 1-3-2, and helmets that meet the provisions of 1-5-1 and are free of cracks and damage.
PENALTY: On the first violation of 4-1-3b for entering the box with an illegal bat, thepenalty for an illegal bat is applied (7-4-1a) and the head coach shall be restricted to thebench/dugout for the remainder of the game. On the second violation for entering the box
with an illegal bat, the penalty for an illegal bat is applied and the head coach shall be ejected. On subsequent violations for entering the box with an illegal bat, the penalty for an illegal bat is applied and the designated head coach shall be ejected. On detected violations of 4-1-3b for the use of a damaged helmet, the helmet shall be immediately removed from
play.
Rule 7 SECTION 4 BATTER IS OUT
ART. 1 . . . A batter is also out as in above penalty or when:
a. the batter enters the batter’s box with an illegal bat (see 1-3-5) or is discovered having
used an illegal bat. If the infraction is discovered before the next pitch following the turn

of the play;

Maybe I'm reading this wrong and if so I apologize. Sounds like the opposing team knew he was using an illegal bat, but wanted to wait until he did something to pop him for an out. Is that correct?

According to an article I read, the bat was called into question and an LHSAA Official was contacted. For whatever reason, he was allowed to use the bat and proceeded to hit a 2 run HR making the score 2-0.

Sorry, but that umpire should have ever had to get on the phone. If he's calling 2nd round 5A playoff games, he needs to know the damn rules. Judgement calls will always be questioned, but know the frickin' rules. That's pretty embarrassing.
If I were Mark Carroll, I would have been camped at Keith Alexander's office door Monday morning.

I know the article says it was before the HR but I was told it was after the HR.

If it was before the next pitch was made, the batter is still out. Runners return to the base they were on prior to the pitch.

Correct. I was just saying I heard it occurred after that HR not before like the article states

As an aside, former Zachary coach Jesse
Cassard has taken the live oak job.

I can clear up the bat issue. They played the whole first two games.. nothing was said about the bat. It’s not the bottom of the first in the 3rd game. The Denham coaches and players start yelling about the banned bat after just winning 8-0 and having all momentum. It causes a 20 minute break for their pitcher. Umpire calls commish. They rule that he can use it. That at bat he hits a 2 run bomb. Completely shifting momentum and making denham look really dumb.
Idk whether the bat in question is legal or not. I have no dog in the fight. However it was ruled legal and he’s used the bat all season. And in my opinion that one instance lost them the game. They looked foolish

Never should have happened. Would love to know the crew who was on the field. Sad that out of a 3-man crew, not one knew the rule.

Again, never should have happened. The NFHS clearly spells out the decertification of the bat and the rules that should apply. (See above) Sad that it was allowed all season long, also.

I can see were it shifted momentum, but the bat is illegal. The bat will not be used at Barbe, the godfather will be sure of that.

I believe I heard one of the Umps say he was out of Ruston

you are being ridiculous.. why would umpires need to memorize every bat that has been banned. That's outrageous. they lost 8-2. It was basically a nonfactor. Without Denham's best player on the mound they were not good

There are 2 frickin' BBCOR bats that have been banned since BBCOR was made the rule. If you can't remember that, you shouldn't be on the field.
