people might not have liked that, but that's a competition issue. it would also make principals massive hypocrites. every school is playing in their enrollment classification, so let's get mad bc two schools are playing in their enrollment classification.

wow. what logic

unless who wins and who loses football games matters to our legislature now. i wouldn't put it past them

the money might be something different. THAT's what the legislators should care about.

owl.. it's the reason they were sent down to their class..... simply because 4a and 5a had the votes to get rid of them....

I know no one is talking about it, but the move to take out 8th and under is a cause of a lot of consternation. Many small schools use 5th and 6th graders for varsity spots on sports like cross country, swimming, wrestling, etc., which if they wouldn't be able to use them, wouldn't have teams. Even 5A schools have used 8th graders in varsity competitions before. I know for a fact that a guy who ended up playing for LSU started at his catholic high school his 8th grade year. It is totally a move to further suppress private schools, and it is upsetting a lot of people.

Meh, Gabby wasn't the first. I know of girls who won class C from 6th grade on who nobody seemed to care about back in the 90s. Of course she went to a public school, not private, so maybe that was the issue.

What pisses me off is that a damn liberal state like NY lets the kids play varsity level at 7th and 8th and were supposed to be an athletic friendly state and they want to try and pass this.

I strongly disagree with the private schools on the tactic of continuous amendments. Let the cards play out!

The proposition to bar middle schoolers fails which may be a good sign for the private schools.

those decisions are best made by parents... in football, wrestling, etc. some of those younger kids are man sized in 6th grade and can hang with varsity

IMO the big difference in wrestling is weight classes which makes it much less likely to go against someone who can seriously injure a young athlete.

When I coached at a public school we used 7th graders.

The only reason I think this even came up is that when the state started issuing charters they removed 7th &8th grade from the high schools. Prior to Katrina & the reorganization of NOPS/failing schools, a lot schools (Karr & Walker) were 7th-12th. Now the 7th& 8th grades were removed.

It sounds like 8 and 9 failed. Now just 18.
