He's so good defensively, what shitty coach and gm couldn't figure out how to have 2 1st team defense guys on the court at the same time...
Oh wait.
The pelicans.

No shite Of course the trade is going to be better for ATL when you grade it after a guy tears his achilles.
I think it has way more to do with Dyson going from being considered a bust to one of the best defensive players in the NBA, while also significantly improving his offense in terms of both totals and percentages, while still only being 21 years old.
If you asked people going into next season if you’d rather have:
- 29 year old Dejounte Murray at $30M/yr
OR
- 22 year old Dyson Daniels at $6M/yr
+ 1st round pick
+ 1st round pick
Nearly every team is picking the latter

His offense improvement has been minimal. He's simply getting more volume so his ppg looks nice. His 3pt% is down and If you look at his per 36 his rebounding and assists are down.
Not saying any of that to knock him because I was a Dyson fan simply based on how great he was on defense and he was one of the youngest players in the NBA so his offensive struggles could be forgiven.
But it made sense from a Pels perspective because 1) you needed scoring 2) you were in what you thought was a win now situation 3) you already had a guy in Herb Jones that was a lock down defender with little offense 4) a better fit with Zion.
It made sense for the Pels. I hated to see Dyson go but I was ok with the trade because with a healthy roster, DM is the better fit.

Like I say, I was judging it on when the trade happened. That's really the only fair way to base a trade. If GM's could read the future and predict injuries so i can't blame Griff for that. Plenty of media outlets thought it was a good trade for the Pels, not just a select portion of Pels fans.
Hopefully DM can return fro his injury and not be a shell of himself, it will sting pretty bad if he can't.
But the Hawks are going to have to pay Dyson a lot now so contract wise it will probably be a wash.
But something not considered is Dyson 10000000% would not have fully developed in New Orleans. The idiot coach just wouldn't have been able to develop him so there is very little reason to look back at the trade with regret because Dyson would be getting about 23 minutes a game and probably numerous nights where he'd be buried on the bench in favor of Brandon Boston. Cursed franchise.

I think you are confused, nearly everything you just said is wrong
FG went from 45% -> 49%
3-PT FG went from 31% -> 35%
AST/36 went from 4.3 -> 4.5
That is extremely significant improvement for a player over just one season.
Typically taking more shots = decreased percentage, but that’s not the case at all here, which is actually extremely rare.
He’s nearly doubled his attempts per game while seeing a 4% increase in shooting percentages. You will be hard pressed to find many NBA guards who have had similar jumps over one year.
So in conclusion, to say that his offensive improvement has been minimal is absolutely insane, and completely wrong.

Whoops, meant FT%, not 3PT. I knew his 3PT was up, which was a nice improvement. His AST was down when I checked earlier in the season so I guess that's bumped back up.
Thank you for the thesis

Dyson Daniels officially finishes with 229 steals, the most of any player since Gary Payton in 1995-96
His 3.1 steals per game is the most by any player since John Stockton in 1988-89
