so im pretty sure most on here remember how close the then pac 10 was to basically absorbing half of the big 12 only to have it fall through at the last second. but now with the pac 12 continuing to teeter on total collapse, i think its an interesting thing to look back on

USC
UCLA
Cal
Stanford
Oregon
Oregon State
Arizona
Arizona State
Washington
Washington State
UT
A&M
OU
Okie State
Tech
Colorado

looking back on it, does that conference emerge as a contender with the SEC and B1G in football? at least make basketball more interesting? hell, what about the other schools? does iowa state get to keep matt campbell? does baylor still make its championship run in basketball if its in the mountain west or conference USA?

I seem to remember that they really fought against Tech and I think Okie Lite. But, tbh, that megaconference would have been cool to see.

A & M, Tejas, and the Okie schools?

That would of been interesting.

Was the American around yet when this was happening?

Either way, Baylor would almost for sure have ended up in the American or an American-equivalent conference, along with Iowa State and Kansas State.

And to answer your question, I think that conference had it come to pass would of overtaken the B1G for second, but the SEC would(and always will be) still be king.

Time would certainly tell but now in the present I can't see Cali schools on board with TexasOklahoma schools in terms of vision.

The country is way to woke

And the current Pac 12 schools admins don't seem to give 2 shits about sports.

But then we wouldn’t have two games a year on LHN tGOAT sports network

Ft. Ricky Williams, Michael Griffin, Sam Acho, Quan Cosby and a cast of several in conjunction with 104.9 The Horn

Texas is essentially a Pac 12 university anyway. Don't let them being stationed in TX fool you. The greatest strength is also their greatest weakness, their elitism way of thinking. They fricking print money but with that comes extreme arrogance. They're the only school, aside from ND who's their own special brand of arrogant, that every conference wants as a business partner but can't stomach being around long enough to make a deal happen.
The Big 12/Pac 12 merger should've happened years ago and would've if any of them(both conferences included) really wanted to deal with Texas' demands. Them merging is the only way the 2 conferences will survive the next realignment cycle.

That’s why you shared a link filled with quotes and evidence...

They may be an SEC team under this scenario. Even with A&M gone, the SEC would still have wanted the Texas market prior to the launch of SECN. TCU, Baylor, Houston or SMU would be the only options.

The pressure would also be on to get to 16 teams after this, so I think a lot of the left over teams get picked up.

I don’t know if the Pac 16 survives this covid season. It’s hard to imagine OU and A&M being okay not playing while TCU, Baylor, Tulsa etc. were suiting up.

Texas Athletics as a whole excels in comparison to any sec school except maybe Fla and it isn’t close. Every coach Del Conte has hired has been a home run. No reason to think Sark will be any different. And the football team will always get bowl selection preferences because they will bring more fans than any school except bama and LSU.

Texas-USC would have become a marquee rivalry in college football and would play out on fox prime time once a year

I almost wish it had happened just so Baylor could’ve gotten fricked.

I heard the plan got squashed because Ann Richards (Baylor alum) was Texas governor at the time and she didn’t like the plan one bit.
