Probably not as much as you're thinking.

The intangible ROI at the moment is enormous. They are the most watched basketball team in the world BY FAR for the last 4 years. That will have a lasting impact for a decade.

They have exponentially grown their fanbase, which will take a hit if these guys leave, but will still be much larger than it was before.

The organization will make out like a bandit if the big 3 are gone and they spend money on a new, talented, young team that will be competitive in the playoffs for years.

ETA:

The entire world is still littered with Chicago Bulls fans that have never been to Chicago. It won't be that big of an impact, but it will be enormous.

Why on earth would he go to the franchise that couldn't help him out under the easier to work with cba. You can't spend your way out of mistakes anymore, and Cleveland wasn't even good at building around him when you could.

Dallas has 31M in cap space. This is what Cuban has been waiting for.

They have a lot of young talent and completely different management now.

I agree with the premise but it's a little disingenuous because Lebron makes so much in endorsements. He makes an estimated $40 million per year in endorsements which allows him to take pay-cuts to make these super teams. This isn't an option for 99% of the NBA.

Even still, how many athletes are going to forego squeezing every last cent they can get out of an organization (see Kobe)?

If I were LeBron I'd sign with Houston. That team would fricking destroy people and their front office is competent and aggressive in trying to improve the roster

If I'm LeBron I don't have time to wait on young guys.

If he goes back it'll be for a lot of reasons that don't have a ton to do with basketball imo. And that's just fine, he's so good he could still easily win there.

Then again, winning in Cleveland would be the only thing that could redeem him completely in the eyes of most, that is if he cares about that.

I think it's always in the back of his mind, but won't play a major role in Decision 2. You can tell he's made a conscious effort improving his public image.

Wouldn't they have to get rid of Jeremy Lin's absurd contract? What team would take that shite on?

but Arison will pay the tax before he lets LeBron slip away

Depending on how big of a cut James takes, they may not even be able to go over the tax threshold. And if James takes a pay cut all the way down to, say, $5m this year, then the Heat are only looking at maybe $6m in cap space after roster holds are taken into consideration. They really won't be able to improve the team significantly unless both James AND Bosh take massive cuts or Wade helps out as well.

Only hang up is that I think the best thing for him is to be with a 3 and D guy on the wing opposite from him so he isn't forced to expend the insane energy on the defensive end guarding everyone's best player like he has his entire career. Harden surely doesn't fit the bill.
