We're talking prime.
Lebron doesn't have Jordan's post-up, jump shot, or ball handling... yet. So this is a bit pre-mature because we're comparing today's Lebron to Jordan's best.
We shall see.

And who knows if he will ever get there in those aspects. That is why it is ridiculous to say Lebron.

Jordan easy. He can handle the ball better. and is much quicker than Bron.

This and Jordan refuses to lose. Huge advantage mentally.

would be a really fun matchup to watch... not really a reflection of who the better player was tho.

Reading some of the responses I'm struck by a couple things:

1) Jordan is faster and a better defender than some seem to remember. He might steal a couple possessions by stripping the ball.
2) Exactly what do we mean by in his prime anyway? Lebron hasn't reached his yet... and Jordan was past his prime athletically when he reached his potential as a shooter

Lebron definitely has the size advantage over Jordan, however Jordan always seemed to make clutch shots and what not. Lebron is a streaky shooter. When he's hot, he's the best. But, he also can brick it up too.

Other than his first year back (after baseball) Jordan did seem to make almost every clutch shot... but the idea that he wasn't a streaky shooter? Can't stay with you there... he would happily go out and shoot 6 for 28 some nights

um. this is a dumb question.

lebron would win. Hands down. considering he's just as fast and athletic but three inches taller and has 50 lbs on jordan.

if this were a game to the death and no style points mattered.
come on y'all. Lebron could just back mike down and dunk on him. jordan would have to work for every shot he got.

But if you had a game with Mike and four clones vs Lebron and 4 clones, Mike would win.

Or if his Bulls played LBJ's Cavs...Bulls win

You underestimate MJ's strength. When he was winning those six championships, Jordan was physically stronger than most NBA big men at the time. No perimeter player, not even Lebron will able to just back him down and dunk on him.

I think the Cavs would get one, maybe two wins in there. However, I think the Cavs (aside from Lebron) are terrible. I think they would be a #8 seed in the playoffs without him. I also thought that the Bulls were pretty solid even without Jordan (Rodman, Pippen, etc.)

I think you're wrong on this one

It was interesting reading Jordan's comments about playing Larry Bird as he was coming into his prime (who I don't think most would have categorized as a powerful big man)... essentially when the two of them were isolated in one on ones larry was able to back him up and score at will close to the basket... but he gained Bird's respect by then taking him outside and scoring over him in return (Bird couldn't guard him in space)

Sort of the opposite of what some would have expected I think... but that can be what happens in one on one mismatches

I'm not understimating shite.

Lebron is 6'9 and 270. That's Karl Malone size. Lebron is just as strong as Malone and just as athletic as Jordan. Lebron had a 41" vertical coming out, which is about Jordan's. Lebron physically overpowers the MUCH bigger big men TODAY.

We're talking 1 on 1 so we're playing street basketball. LLebron would physically overpower Jordan. And shoot from 5' and in.

that simple.
Jordan would have to work for every shot he took on the offensive end, because Lebron has the quickness, length, and jumping ability to stay with him and contest every shot.

Jordan, and it wouldn't be close. Jordan would make Lebron look silly. Jordan dominated the league from jump street. Jordan was both the best offensive player and the best defensive player in the league in his prime. There was nothing he couldn't or wouldn't do on the court. As good as Lebron is, he isn't that good.

Jordan was a better scorer and was a better defensive player. He wins in a game of 21 9/10 times.

Laugh all you want Pilot. I follow basketball more than anyone I know. And we're talking about my #1 and #2 players of all time.

Lebron beats Mike one on one. no questions asked. It's a different game. And the more physically dominant person wins.

this is stupid. Jordan scored first because he was more physically gifted than everyone in the league. He's not more physically gifted than Lebron.

Then he won when he learned how to play basketball the right way and use his teammates and make the right decisions in game situations.

One on One needs none of those decisions. One on One vs Lebron takes away every edge that Jordan has as a player over Lebron. Jordan's a more complete player, and the GOAT. But that has nothing to do with what would happen 1 on 1.
Lebron would win.
