@Redskins
Suit up, @Rak98! #Redskins OLB Brian Orakpo will replace Ahmad Brooks at the Pro Bowl. Congrats, 'Rak! #HTTR

Ahmad Brooks opted out of playing so Coaches and players in the league chose Orakpo over David

Brian Orakpo (as a 3-4 OLB mind you): 60 tot tcks (43 solo), 10 sacks, 0 FFs, 1 INT, 4 PBUs

Lavonte David (as a 4-3 OLB): 144 tot tcks (106 solo), 6 sacks, 2 FF, 5 INTs, 10 PBUs

so a guy in his 2nd yr who has arguably one of the best seasons an OLB has had in 20 years gets snubbed because a glorified DE in the 'Skins system had double digit sacks???

What a joke

not that big of a deal, would you want him to risk getting injured in a meaningless game?

Guys get bonuses for being a PB player on their contracts and multiple PBs can help a player get a nod faster in the HOF

Since maybe 96 one of the best seasons a LB has had

Article I found breaking it down

quote:

In fact, you could argue that Lavonte David had the best season a linebacker has ever had in the NFL. With three games left in the season, Lavonte David had 43 'Defeats', a measure used by Football Outsiders that essentially tallies impact plays on defense. As far as I can tell he then added three third down stops and three more tackles for loss not on third down, which would give him 49 Defeats on the season. Only one player ever notched more (they have stats going back to 1996), and that was J.J. Watt with 56 last season -- when he won Defensive Player of the Year.

And yet Lavonte David doesn't make the Pro Bowl?

The most jarring aspect of his snubbing is that Lavonte David came in fifth in fan voting, per ESPN. This wasn't due to the fans' lack of passion or some other nonsensical storyline like that. It wasn't due to media disrespect, as the media voted him a first-team All-Pro (they don't get a Pro Bowl vote). Had it been up to either the fans or the media, David would be travelling to Hawaii.

Also compares other PB selections and he leads in all categories

I agree that he got snubbed, but that article is just silly.

Ok let's look at LBs who have won DPOYs

2011 - Terrell Suggs: 70 tcks, 14 sacks, 7 FFs, 2 INTs, 6 PBUs

2008 - James Harrison: 101 tackles, 16 sacks, 7 FFs, 1 INT, 3 PBUs

2005 Brian Urlacher (good comparison): 121 tcks, 6 sacks, 1 FF, 0 INTs, 5 PBUs

2003 Ray Lewis: 161 tcks, 1.5 sacks, 2 FFs, 6 INTs, 13 PBUs

2002 Derrick Brooks: 117 tcks, 1 sack, 1 FF, 5 INTs, 11 PBUs

Keep in mind Suggs and Harrison are/were pass rushing guys in a 3 - 4 on the outside and the others listed were a few HOF MLBs

That's 20 years so 1 maybe 2 DPOYs are comparable or better

Damn, his stats are fricking unreal and I've watched him play, I'd be pissed if I was a TB fan.

TY comparable season to a few HOF caliber guys in some of their best DPOY years and he doesn't get voted in AT ALL then snubbed as a replacement

I was really, really impressed with a bunch of 'traditional' young linebackers this year, not just pass rushers. I feel like we could be entering a resurgence for the position, after it being devalued for the past decade or so.

N Bowman, Burfict, Luke Kuechly, Kiko Alonso, Lavonte David, Deandre Levy, Bobby Wagner, Danny Trevathan, etc.
