wade hit 42.3% of his long 2s and that caused his TS% to drop because he didn't drive and get FTs

Based on what you posted the 3pt shooter by far but how many of the misses turn into offensive rebounds that lead to scores? IIRC MRJ are rebounded for scores at a MUCH higher rate than missed 3s.

If you have someone that is good at it obviously you use it but a few of those guys you listed only shoot around 40% from the mid range. Look at who shoots the most mid range jumpers and long 2's in the league- Philly, Dallas, Orlando, Washington, Boston, Milwaukee. Those are some of the worst offenses in the league.

Didn't Hollinger's article on the greatest shooters a few years ago have Bird in the top 3-5 range?

All the recent title teams have had stars who were excellent mid range shooters.
The best defenses force offenses to take mid range jumpers. In the playoffs scoring goes down because the defenses are better.
The guys you listed are superstars for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that they can hit those tough shots v elite defenses.

I think there's a disconnect on what people see as a mid-range jumper.
A shot 6 inches in front of the 3 point line is not a mid-range jumper. It is, however, the worst shot in basketball.

You know how I know you went to law school? You are trying to generate an argument that doesn't exist, with someone who has the same opinion as yours. Why are you arguing the efficiency of 3 pt shots with me? I said that today's players utilize the 3 more than when Bird was playing. I have never mentioned the efficiency of the 18 ft jumper.

Bird is a career 37% 3pt shooter.
the last 8 years of his career he made 40%.
shite, in 85-86 he led the league in attempts. and the next year led the league in makes.
who cares is Rashard Lewis has more. He was effcient

Exactly. LOL at this Palmer clown mentioning Rashard Lewis as a comparison to Bird.
But it's really obvious that Palmer is either trolling or just racist. Either way, frick this dumb opinion.

Personally, I only shoot 3's

an elite mid-range guy will hit 50% of his shots from that range (around 15 feet)
an OK 3 guy will hit 35% of his 3s
over 1000 shots, the 50% midrange guy will still be less efficient (1000 to 1050)

Its hard to factor in how many times the midrange shooter is going to get fouled (much more) than the 3 point shooter. How many boards the midrange guy is going to get by following his shot compared to the 3 point guy who gets virtually zero.

of course, that 35% 3 point shooter is also causing way more fast break opportunities for the other team.

midrange Js don't really create a lot of fouls

why would it cause a noticeable increase over a jumpshot?

Not a lot but more than 3's for sure. Defensive players are conditioned never to foul the 3 point shooter. Players will go for the pump fake or even the block on 10-15 foot jump shots often so yes its of a factor when comparing.

Wades's always pretty much been a shitty shooter no matter how you look at. He has always been a beast at getting to the rim though. That's why it's no real surprise that he is already starting to decline. His style of game just isn't conducive to playing in your thirties.
