I like how you slide your way out of the ACTUAL thread by bringing up predictions.

You must not have seen him live, If you did you could see that he is THE better overall team player.

Comparing the stats of a SG (Kobe) to a SF/PF (Bird) just doesn't work.

If forced to choose between an elite guard or post player, I'd pick the post nearly every time. Bird.

I have a hard time comparing shooting percentages from that era to this era

As a whole shooting percentages have gone down. I've just never realistically thought that was a good barometer to compare

Shooting percentages have gradually and steadily declined since the mid 80's. Honestly I think if Kobe played in the early 90 and mid 80's his percentages would be higher

It's tougher for offensive players to score in todays game. Especially in Isolations situations

That hasn't always worked out in practice. Sam Bowie over MJ. Oden over Durant. Darko over anyone.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure some bigs were screwed for guards in the draft.

I'm not sure his rule holds up every time - but he did say elite. The examples you picked were one sided cause one turned out not to be elite and the other one very much so

Ask Dr J if Bird can play defense.

How many categories does Bird rank in the top ten?

I'd love to ask him off the record.

Look I understand all you Bird fans have your boys back, and He's probably one of the top 5 players of all time.

But he was not a good defensive player. Good instincts on help defense, that's about it. He was often exposed one-on-one.

But hey, he was a better defensive player than Pistol Pete and I loved the Pistol, if that makes you feel any better.

Bird won three titles. Bryant has won two. Yep. Bryant has won two.

I would take Bird every day of the week and twice on Sunday. If Bird jacked it up as much as Kobe he probably would have averaged 5 to 10 points more per game than Kobe. Not to mention that the NBA three point line was further back when Bird was playing and he still shot at a higher percentage.

Did you miss the career field goal per game numbers?

There were more field goals shot per game in the 1980s than in the 2000s fyi. Teams average about 12 points less than they did 20-30 years ago.

where are you getting that number? I was looking through the recent rankings for offense and defense and the numbers were really close between the 80s, 90s, and 00s
