good read about phil robertson (from duck dynasty) and terry bradshaw

here

quote:

You might have heard of Terry Bradshaw, who went on to attain the top pick in the 1970 NFL Draft, a lengthy career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, four Super Bowl victories, a spot in the Hall of Fame and a second career in front of the camera. You might not have heard of Phil Robertson, who was ahead of Bradshaw on Louisiana Tech’s depth chart but gave up football with one year of eligibility remaining because the game and any future in it interfered with his heart’s dearest passion: duck-hunting season.

Never really discussed on DD but if youve watched any of the Duck Commander videos they talk about it.

From what my dad says (big la tech fan, went to school at that time) Phil had a hard time hitting the broad side of a barn and missed most practices. I'm not so sure it interfered with duck hunting as he just wasn't good at it.

Of course, Bradshaw only went to Tech because he couldn't get in academically at LSU.

In one of his books he claimed he intentionally failed his entrance exam

If they could have incorporated Karl Malone into the article then yes, that would be the ultimate LA Tech glory article

In the 60's and 70's you'd have to be a vegetable not to get in. Even now, if you can throw a ball you have to be an absolute invalid to not get eligible.

Ran into Terry after the game with N.western St. in Shreveport his last yr. Frat party after the game, he walked in, long flowing blonde hair,a bottle of Rebel Yell in each hand, and his arms around a blonde, brunette, and redhead. The man could party with the best.

I sure hope they didn't end with Sonny Dykes' departure.

No, but I found his name in the Tech media guide:

300 yards passing:
302 - Phil Robertson @ SE Louisiana 1967

Most interceptions in career
7. 34 - Phil Robertson, 1965-67

You wouldn't know Phil has a masters in education by looking at him
