Putting this clause in was a blunder.

It makes him look like an immature lazy POS, and it makes the Cardinals look like idiots for giving him that big of a contract.

I understand the need to cya. But maybe just tell him it’s expected behind the scenes or something.

unless that is a way they snuck in an out clause passed his agent because they know he wont do it so they can back out of that contract using it as an excuse if he isnt producing on the field to live up to the pay he is getting

Saw on twitter that the language is pretty specific about no TV or video games, actual film study.

They would need some pretty concrete proof that he didn’t study, which I don’t how how they could possibly obtain that.

Him performing poorly isn’t going to be enough. Only reason his agents likely agreed to this is because they know it’s hardly enforceable. Which kind of makes it a silly endeavor in the first place that will only serve to create bad headlines for both him and the team

The current attention it’s getting and shining negative light both on the team and the QB is exactly why you don’t put it in the deal.

You are missing the point here. Great QB’s are film rats without being told to…. That’s a fact….

Brady has probably legit watched 5-10x that amount of film every week for 20 years.

The Cardinals are fricking idiots and Kliff should be fired tor enabling this dumbass who apparently has to be treated like a 9 year old.

And that doesn't exist if you put it in every deal regardless as a pure CYA move

You can tell a person to have good habits, you can stay on their arse and teach them but you cannot make them give a shite and want to on their own. A lot of frustrated angry bosses haven't figured this out. Giving a shite is something you do on your own that comes from within.

What I really do not understand is what has this guy done to even get a contract like this???

There’s number of reasons and excuses for giving Kyler a huge contract;
It’s the market rate for a QB.
He’s a first rounder that’s already eligible for a big pay increase in his fifth year, and a long term contract can help the team spread out the cap hit by applying some of his signing bonus over the last two years of his rookie deal.

However, the real reason is that the futures of both the head coach and GM are in doubt. For better or worse, their immediate job security is tied to Kyler. They don’t have the luxury of letting Kyler walk or holdout.

If it doesn’t work out, then they’ll be out of a job long before his contract expires. Others will inherit their mess.

Not sure how that solves the current PR shitstorm they will endure from this but sure I’m sure they can and will (or atleast try to) from now on

Other teams won’t be able to get away with this. Agents will be like piss off and no one is going to care about an amendment to the contract that you can’t reasonably enforce anyway

The goal of this seems to be the cards giving Kyler some level of embarrassment more so than any actual team protection. Guess they didn’t think people would also roast them about it. I mean no chance Ian Rappaport is reporting this without someone specifically directing him too, and that person wouldn’t be Kyler or his team
