re: Kobe Bryant in beast mode, 45 pts; Lakers 113 Blazers 106 FINAL

It was the best single game performance by any player all year considering the scope. Mad stats all around, fairly efficient, all 48 minutes played, second night of a road back to back in rip city (where the Lakers notoriously struggle), and a chance to control your own destiny in the line.
The best play Kobe made was when he was about to take a pull up fader at the elbow with the shot clock expiring, but he whipped it into Gasol for an easy bucket to beat the shot clock.

I give them a better shot vs the Spurs is all I am saying. I wouldn't pick them to win either, although it's hard to count out Kobe and a Laker team stacked with talent.
Magic Johnson went full retard and said the Lakers would absolutely beat the Spurs if they were the 8-1 first round matchup. DO IT FOR DR. BUSS.

Gasol had a great game last night and has played really well in April. Now that he's healthy, and now that D'Antoni moved out of his way, he looks like the Pau of old. He's played 39 minutes the last three games, so he appears to be playoff ready if they make it. When Pau is clicking the team meshes exponentially better because not only does he give you a diverse offensive big, but he gets Dwight going. He'll look for Dwight just as often as he shoots, which is big because Dwight doesn't really move around enough to warrant a lot of looks; Pau just finds ways to get him easy looks at the basket. Pau gets a lot of flack for being a bitch in the playoffs the last two years, but he's a great player when he's on.
Watching Lillard go off last night made me wonder where Darius Morris has been. While Morris is a bum offensively, he's a pretty active defender with decent size and good athleticism. Here's Lillard's stats in the three games where Morris logged zero minutes:
23 pts, 11 asts
19 pts, 7 asts
38 pts, 9 asts
Lillard's stats in the one game that Morris logged 24 minutes?
11 pts, 4 asts (4/17 FG)

quote:Yeah the lakers have undoubtedly become a "good" team but they're still not a great team by any standard. They're needing kobe to play 48 minutes to win tight games against average teams. I'm a little worried that this is what they are.

the Lakers really really just need SA to be the #1 seed. No shot against the Thunder.

where in my prevous post did i say the Lakers would beat SA in a 7 game series?

Parker's been hurt for the past month, and its been reported that he probably won't be completely healthy until after the playoffs.
Spurs without Manu and with a hurt TP are pretty vulnerable.

Uh... How is Lebron not MVP? It is not even close.

I'll venture to say he'll be fine, regardless even 80-90% Parker is more than the Lakers can handle. The Spurs are a terrible match up for the Lakers too because they know how to move the ball on offense. Their toughest task will be making all the open 3s they'll get.

just calling a spade a spade. your hatred is obvious.

I've always held out the possibility they could make the playoffs, even when things were at the bleakest for them. But they're not this super dangerous 8 seed. Kobe's playing 48 minutes a night, and they're just getting by. They still might not even make the playoffs.
All I pointed out was that they're not beating either OKC or SAS, assuming any kind of health from either team. Maybe your fandom is getting in the way of your rationality on their playoff hopes?
