I'm not mad, if it's two 1s and a player, that's a solid haul we're getting. I'm actually shocked the Bears are doing this.

Over last 48 hours, Raiders engaged in active trade talks with multiple teams. They asked for two first-round picks. Other teams made enticing, big-time offers of multiple picks. Chicago was willing to offer most, whatever compensation turns out to be in the end. It will be rich.

Anyone else hear Mort say the Raiders are relatively cash poor? He was just speculating but offered that as an idea why they weren’t thrilled about resigning Mack to a record deal in terms of guaranteed money.

Not sure about the Bears' GM

-Signs Mike Glennon to a 3 year $43.5 million contract
-Trades #3 overall pick, and then a pair of 3rd round picks and a 4th rd pick, to move up one spot to draft Mitchell Trubisky.
-Cuts Mike Glennon after paying him $18.7 million for starting 4 games and finishing 2 of them.
-drafts Roquan Smith and then doesn't sign for training camp over a stupid clause.

RM's drafts:

2013: Hayden (Bust), Watson (Bust), Moore (Traded)
2014: Mack, Carr, Gabe Jackson (Good draft)
2015: Cooper, MEJ (Injury prone), Clive (Not only roster anymore)
2016: Joesph (Good) , Ward (Bust) , Calhoun (Bust)
2017: Conley (, Obi (Waived) , Vanderdoes (Tore ACL)

McKenzie has had one good draft, and just traded likely his best player he brought in.

Just good?

Then you get Cooper and Joesph. Its not like they were Browns drafts

Joseph has had troubles covering tight ends and has two INT's in his two years of playing. Not saying he hasn't had an impact, but for a safety drafted in the first round, I was hoping for better results. Then again, we probably could have gotten Joseph in the second round.

Cooper has been up and down as well. Not RM's fault, but Coop's has had issues with drops and some nagging injuries. If he doesn't pan out, then that's another pick for RM that didn't work. It's not entirely his fault, but you can't say that's not alarming.

but the Bears are buying? I didn't view them as contenders.

Nagy must really have given the seal of approval to Turbisky

the new strat is to sign big while you have your QB on a rookie deal and the Bears can likely make it work b/c of that

the strat only works if the QB works, though

Bears have some very good players on defense and just overhauled their offense this off season as well.

Bears play a 3-4

They have Hicks at on DE and a pair of decent NT in Goldman and Jenkins. Hicks as a 3-4 DE is ver good. 8.5 sacks coming from a 3-4 DE is awesome considering the constant double team they face.
Now the Bears have Floyd and Mack at outside linebackers with Smith in the middle. Bears now have the best linebacker group in the league.
They can still use help at safety but their corners are also above average in Fuller and Amukamara.

Bears will have a top 5 defense this year. I think they go 8-8 with a few key home wins to help the Saints against either Minnesota, Green Bay, or the LA Rams.

Bears can afford this because their qb is on a rookie scale.

If true, this is a great move for a rebuilding Raiders team

Plus, Vic Fangio is one of the best DCs in the game.

Great move for both teams. Bears made enough moves on offense where they were going to win probably 7 games and pick around 10 or so. Now with Mack I think they win 8 or 9. That would be picking in the mid to late teens. I realize the financial savings in draft picks but with a qb on a rookie scale it is time to go for it.

I know the Browns were interested and am a little surprised they didn't make that move with the cap room they have. They loaded up on the offense this offseason, and Mack would be perfect on the other side of Garrett to help their defensive rebuild

They're going to have a very good defense and they just got a ton of offensive weapons. And like someone mentioned, they can pay Mack 20+ a year while their QB is on a rookie deal for at least 3 more years.
