He held onto the ball too long and reluctantly shot the ball?? If he’s holding onto the ball it’s because he wants to shoot it

what?

1. They were running iso for him. So not sure what you mean by “waiting for the offense to open up”.

2. How would the offense ever open up when one guy stands at the top of the key with the ball? That’s not how anyone runs offense.

They got him the ball pretty early. He would back his guy down, wait till he got doubled then shoot. It was terrible, I would’ve considered benching him because he flat out refused to move the ball.

Ariza's defense and the help is making it tough for Durant. Houston has turned it up on him in the 4th quarter. Durant likes to fade on his shots. Ariza and whoever else is guarding him will press tight to him on his shots. Makes him uncomfortable, makes the shot tougher with the hand in his face. But b/c of his shot style he doesn't draw fouls as he is fading away slightly. I think the Rockets are just making him feel uncomfortable. Ariza is long enough and quick enough to do this. Durant would need to start attacking quicker and driving more. Or run an offense to get him a pass and shot instead of pure iso only for him.

No, he was waiting for the offense to free itself up. If KD was wanting to shoot, he wouldn’t have to dribble as he has a height advantage against most of his opponents.

Well I hate the term frontrunner, but it's hard to shake that thought when I think of Durant.

Think about his OKC days vs GS. Look at him the past two games. When GS is rolling, he's on fire, but he's not the guy to pick them up from a lull.

I think he held onto the ball, waiting for his teammates to do anything, or run any type of offense, but when that didn't happen he went into the lane and threw up some half hearted attempt at a shot.

It was awful to watch. Durant ended the game with zero assists.

ETA: some of it was designed ISO, but I don't think all of it was.

lol. Kerr’s own in game commentary debunks this.

Players off the ball make basketball moves to free themselves up.

It’s literally what you see on the court. Draymond passed to Curry. Curry would pass to Durant. Then everybody would go to other side of the court.

But usually the first guy isn’t going to be open for a shot. Are you saying he couldn’t find a guy that he could get the ball to? Because that’s pretty comical.

You open up the offense by moving the ball. It’s never going to open up with you sitting with the ball in one place

Just because it’s initially iso doesn’t mean he has to force up the shot. He never thought about anything but 1 on 1 Basketball which would turn into 1 on 2 Basketball.

LeBron hater here and you are spot on. For all the things I dislike about LeBron he's actually proven to be pretty clutch when it counts.

Defenders were clogging the passing lanes (18 TOs) and the offense was forced to pass into non optimal spots which puts makes the movement counter productive. Regardless, Kerr flat out said the movement was fine after the game.

And yes, Durant was isoed at times probably to take advantage of his height, and in many of those times, Curry was feeding it.

To be fair, Curry and Thompson both attempted the last two shots of Game 4 and 5, so it wasn't like they were leaving it to Shaun Livingston or Kevin Looney. But that doesn't excuse the other 3 and a half minutes.

Game 4 Thompson had to take the shot because Durant passed on a good shot opportunity.

Interesting stat:
Kevin Durant regular season

0 assists game-0
1 assist games-3

Durant in the Western Conference Finals

0 assists games- 2
1 assist games- 1

Durant in the regular season averaged 42 passes a game 9 potential assists and 0.7 hockey assists.

Durant in WCF is averaging 35 passes a game 5.8 potential assists and 0.6 hockey assists.

100%

The end of game 4 and game 5 are the first time KD has faced any playoff adversity whatsoever since joining GS. Last season they went sweep/sweep/sweep then up 3-0 on CLE. Yea, because he played great, but he never played under huge adversity/pressure moments.

Are we supposed to believe that it's just a coincidence that we've seen some serious KD deficiencies in game 4's 4th quarter and game 5 that we haven't seen since the last time he's faced big playoff moments with OKC? That's one heck of a coincidence, if so.

There's a possibility that Lebron isn't GOAT.

But don't be silly. Very low?
