quote:first off, how is pitching three run ball in 7/8 innings on short rest nutting? Thats before we even consider how if hanley got one inch higher off the ground we arent even having this discussion. Second off, how is game 1 of last year somehow more important than game 4 of the Braves series in 2013?
Biggest games of his career so far and he nutted both times.

My money says he nuts again if given the chance this year. But he has been going to Peyton Manning's sports psychologist. ...

quote:You still ignored the entire point of his post about the small sample size. Remember GoldenNugget used a small sample size to create the awesomely ridiculous (or ridiculously awesome) thread about Kershaw. You don't want to be associated with the same logic as him, do you?

The whole notion that Clayton can't pitch in the playoffs literally is boiled down to 12 innings and completely looks over the more than a handful of great performances he has had

Playoff career wise, he is 1-5 with a 5.1 era. In NLCS games he is 0-3 with a 7.12 era. He is a great regular season pitcher.

And I'm done with this. If you want to keep on keeping on with the ridiculous notion that 12 innings makes someone a choker than fine. Go ahead, nothing anyone can say will change that

I bet these same people saying that Clayton can't pitch in the playoffs would have said the same thing about Randy Johnson 15 years ago. He posted 5+ ERAs in '97 and '99 and I'm sure some people here would take the lazy "he can't pitch in the postseason, he's a choke artist" narrative instead of realizing that pretty much any random thing can happen in such a tiny sample. And what did Johnson do next time he made the postseason: utterly dominated and was Co-MVP of the World Series.
Same thing with ARod: choke artist who can't handle the postseason, oh wait until he bombed through the 2009 playoffs and led the Yanks to a title.

I think you and I had this conversation with someone else who brought this up like two weeks ago. It's just not worth it

We did and it's not, but for some reason I can't help myself from jumping in.

All I can look at is his 6 games he has pitched in the playoffs. I hope he does turn it around as I'm Dodgers fan. But as of today he is an not a good playoff pitcher.

His playoff results have been mediocre to date, no doubt. That said, if it was game 7 and I got my pick of anyone to start the game, I'm taking the best pitcher alive, Clayton Kershaw.

I think it's more of a Cardinals problem than a playoff problem.
But seriously he was tremendous in both Cards games last year until the very end of each start. A lot of the added pressure on Clayton comes from how awful our bullpen is. He and Mattingly know he pretty much has to get the ball to Kenley or we are in deep shite. Unfair, but that's the way it is. No one can be trusted in the pen for middle relief or setup.
This is the year he has to dominate. I love Kershaw and totally understand the sample size is small, but he has not been very good (by his standards) in the playoffs and he would be the first to tell you that.

I don't understand how they haven't upgraded that Cow Pen from last year. It was a glaring weakness last year and if anything, they have gotten worse.
