Kellen Winslow to the Seahawks for a 7th rounder

Has a chance to be upgraded to a 6th. Another example of what I think is a lopsided trade. I still can't figure out why NFL starters yield such terrible returns in trades.

Cap space is what it's all about.
He's not getting any younger and they offloaded his $14M contract. They freed up $4.8M in cap space.

That makes sense, thanks.

He had a $3.3m base salary, so unless he had a large roster bonus that isn't showing up on rotoworld, they did not save that much. And that's excluding any accelerated guaranteed money that goes against the cap for trading him. And even after their big signings this offseason, I don't believe they were up against the cap.
I do agree that declining production is why they unloaded him (though I don't know why they would go after Dallas Clark if TB is worried about that). His knees aren't in the best shape. But, if he sucks, it only costs Seattle a 7th rounder, there would be no cap hit for cutting him. Not bad for taking a chance on the guy.

That includes a $3.3 million in base salary, $550,000 in per-game roster bonuses ($34,375 per game active), a $500,000 workout bonus and $1 million in incentives. Winslow will count for $4.8 million against the salary cap in 2012.

The Seahawks definitely got a good deal with this. The combo of Zach Miller and Kellen Winslow could be pretty good, and maybe CPC is trying to base his offense like the Patriots. Match up those 2 to go along with Marshawn Lynch, Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin, and Ben Obomanu and the Seahawks have a nice little offense. Let's see how Tavaris Jackson or Charlie Whitehurt leads them this year.

maybe he has a season left.
looks like yet another aging vet trying to minimize the pounding on his body and getting "cut".

Kellen Winslow Jr. dropped the bomb today on Sirius XM radio, stating coach Greg Schiano informed him the team will be seeking to trade him. This becomes the latest example of Schiano’s no nonsense attitude and approach to football. Either be committed or go home. The move likely comes as a result of Winslow’s lack of participation during voluntary workouts which were anything but.

I totally forgot about him signing with Seattle.
BTW, what's his deal look like?

The Seahawks front office seems all over the place to me. Charlie Whitehurst, Winslow, Z. Miller, Flynn, R. Wilson, James Carpenter, Leon Washionton & LenDale White.
It may just be me, but I just don't see where this team is going.

I still remember him freaking out in a locker-room interview. THIS IS WAR AND I'M A SOLDIER!

He and Freeman also used to go at it on the field when he wasn't getting the ball. Good move for both teams.

He and Zach Miller are going to be a hell of a combination for Russell Wilson. They are copying the Patriots. Of course the Broncos sit back are content with freaking Jacob Tamme

Maybe at the beginning of the year but I think eventually Wilson takes over.
