Let's be honest, Memphis hiring Mike Singletary killed the league before it started.

In our defense, we did not hire him. The league assigned coaching staffs.

Honestly, I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I literally know of no one who watched a game of this.

I don’t know how Polian and Ebersol didn’t plan better to keep the AAF afloat for at least a few years after seeing how the XFL mess unfolded 18 years ago.

Before the AAF ever kicked off I heard interviews from both these guys. They said they knew it would take time and they had two years worth of funding secured to weather the start.

Something really isn't adding up here. The ratings were better than expected, strong enough to get games moved from CBS Sports to TNT.

I really do think it was a scam by Dundon. He saw value in the AAF’s intellectual property (their app). Ebersol said once that he saw the AAF almost as a tech company that owned a football league. Dundon bought said tech company, and decided to axe the football league. Come to think of it, it’s not really a scam.

It’s also really surprising to me Dundon dropped $250M of his own money into this. Then 2 months later already jumps ship. I would have thought he would be willing to at least finish the season out and make more of an effort to get some of his investment back.

(Never mind. I didn’t see the post above mine when I wrote that. I didn’t realize the intellectual property the AAF had. I’m just watching this unfold as a casual observer.)

He only put $70 million of the $250 million pledge in. Probably paid to get in the door, get his positioning for the tech, get his hands in it, and got out.

Ah. That makes more sense then. I underestimated the value of the tech.

I don't know much about tech stuff either but know stuff like BAMTech that was developed by MLB and NHL then spun off and sold to Disney is worth billions. I assume Dundon saw similar opportunity here.

Good point. I didn’t realize the AAF had such valuable tech. I still would have thought Polian and Ebersol would have enough funding in place when the league started so they didn’t need to get Dundon involved so quickly.

Kinda reminds me of a story my gramps told me about this exceedingly rich douchebag that sunk a football league about 3 decades or so ago
Wonder what ever happened to that dude?

My understanding of the tech is that it is a gambling app built into a streaming platform. Odds and options for bets are constantly changing throughout a game.

Polian needs to get control of this now - lock Dundon out of everything and keep the app away from him.

This sucks. I was looking forward to catching my first game, too. I finally had the time and this happens.
