The reported death of Seau draws comparisons to Dave Duerson. While it's too early to know whether Seau had similar intentions, Duerson purposefully shot himself in the chest in order to preserve his head for research. The former Bears standout suffered multiple concussions while playing in the league.

From cbssports.com

Football concussions are causing former players to commit suicide left and right now. The commissioner MUST do something.

Yep. I've been saying this all along. It's the only way for players to truly protect their heads.

But that's not really what the league wants. It's all about lawsuits, and the media adds fuel to that fire.

You could say the same thing about boxing needing to get rid of gloves. If boxing decided to get rid of gloves, boxers wouldn't sustain as much brain trauma because they wouldn't be throwing punches as hard as they can and risk breaking their hands. Get rid of helmets and it would prevent players from launching themselves headfirst into another player.

Meanwhile, ESPN's 1st and 10 production team is somehow trying to fit this into a Tim Tebow story for tommorrow morning.

I have a strong hunch on why ESPN waited an extra few hours to report it: watching clips of the announcement and reading the articles, they simply say that the Chargers have announced it. I'm betting they knew the Chargers would release a statement quickly about it and didn't want to give credit to TMZ for breaking the story.

Did anyone do a thing to stop Derrick Thomas from dying?

Que? DT died from a blood clot stemming from a car wreck. Seau got acute lead poisoning because his turnip was bounced around a bunch. How are they comparable?

If he did commit suicide, he may have shot himself in the chest so that they could examine his brain for injuries he received in football. Dave Duerson, a Chicago Bears former player, killed himself in 2011 with a shotgun blast to the chest.

I always heard rumors Thomas had a wreck less off the field issues.

I'm gonna read that as "reckless". Dude threw off a bunch of kids, but other than that, I've never heard anything.

With that said, your comparison is terrible. People are wanting the NFL to do something about head injuries in the league because they may be contributing to suicides....what can the league do about a car wreck?
