Their record vs the last 8 SEC teams they’ve faced, (an SEC length schedule), is 4-4 so that puts them around 8th or 9th in the conf for a normal season. If you want to go further back the record gets worse but “muh they look good vs Army”

They’re 4-1 under Freeman in their last 5 (his only 5). They were 0-2 under Kelly in the immediate 2 before that. You had to go back to 2020 the 2nd-most recent loss, to an all-time Bama team) to try to prove your point.

Once again, you’re not very bright.

My man points out games from 2020 as if they’re any indication of the way things are today and thinks he’s a genius.

Done with this convo, if you’re so stupid you’re citing Nick Saban beating Brian Kelly in 2020 as proof that ND would be 2nd-rate in 2026 then there’s no use debating you.

Not really. The talent discrepancy is still pretty steep.

NFL Draft picks over the past 5 years:
SEC 352
Big Ten 284
ACC 174
Big 12 155

It’s still a very deep conference, but its top teams are no longer better than (and, recently, haven’t been as good as) the country’s other top teams. That’s the biggest difference. There’s no more Meyer UF or Saban Bama or 2019 LSU or early 2020s UGA or even the one-off teams like 2007 LSU or 2010 Auburn.

ETA: Haha, first downvote (prob from that other guy), more to follow I’m sure, despite what I said literally being unarguable.

lol the SEC has won 4 of 7 national championships in the 2020s including a season where both teams playing for the natty were from the SEC. Neither has been accomplished by any other conference.

It just makes for a bunch more difficult grind. You can’t take a game off. The depth of the elite teams is down and it’s a dogfight every week. There isn’t a justifiable reason to say the coaching is meaningfully worse in the SEC either.

Ugh, sigh. Can’t believe you’ve baited me back in. So you must be new to college football.

First of all, the years of the seasons reference the regular season, not January, so it’s 3 of 6.

Second of all, the SEC has won 0 of 3 starting in 2023, and been in 0 of the 6 NCG slots. As I said on the last page, your runner-up Bama last year lost to 5-7 ACC FSU and to Indiana by 35.

NIL is different. The portal is different. The game has changed. 2021 is old news.

ND has won a semifinal more recently than the SEC, and beat the SEC Champ along the way. Tier 1 baby!

I don’t disagree. My intention this whole time was also not to completely bash the SEC from top to bottom because it’s the best top to bottom. It’s just more that I think a lot of the country’s other top teams could have won the SEC the past few years. Would of course depend on schedule, injuries, bounces, etc.

ND definitely could this season. Would they? Would depend on the exact schedule, injuries, bounces, etc.

What a shock you hand pick and ignore facts based on pure bias and nothing else.

I can absolutely say the coaching has fallen in the SEC. Only morons would say it hasn’t. No Natty appearance since Saban retired and yet some say there has been no drop off? Mario freaking Cristobal just pushed your ish in twice in the playoffs and you don’t think there’s a drop off? Cristobal has lost multiple ACC games every season and yet he ran thru the SEC like it was standing still.

And the exact same thing many if you are saying today is what you were saying about Texas and OU and yet they are picked in the top 3 of your conference when you said they’d be bottom feeders.

Your big stadiums and ESPN promotion can’t save you from reality, No one is scared to play your teams anymore. You don’t play defense and your QB play is average. Your only chance this year is Smart and Stockton. Otherwise we’ll be watching Day, Freeman, or Cristobal in the Natty.

You seem to be a lost cause, but maybe you’re not, so my final attempt:

Fact 1: The SEC hasn’t won any of the past 3 national championships.

Fact 2: The SEC hasn’t won any of the past 6 seminal games.

Fact 3: SEC runner-up Alabama (who went 7-1 in the conference last year) lost to Florida State, who finished 5-7 in the ACC.

Fact 4: ND has won a semifinal more recently than any SEC team, and beat the SEC Champ along the way.

You accuse me of ignoring facts. Can you acknowledge those four facts? If you can, in exchange: I’ll grant you that each of 2019 LSU, 2020 Bama, 2021 UGA and 2022 UGA were all outstanding teams, at least 2-3 of them among the greatest in college football history. Seems an easy trade: facts only, that should be easy to agree on.

Buddy, anecdotal examples, recency bias, hypocrisy and double standard arguments aren’t logic. It’s just pure bias and the fact that you include Freeman’s tenure, which dates back to 2021, but you refuse to acknowledge data points on anything you don’t agree with from that same time frame just proves my point.

I literally stated just facts. Nothing I said was inaccurate.

recency bias

You have to be kidding me. Yes, 2023-2025 is more relevant to 2026 than 2019-2022 is. What are you talking about?

quote:

I brought up his record because YOU (not me, YOU) said ND is 4-4 in their last 8 games (which is inaccurate btw, they’re 5-3). But that dates back to Brian Kelly. Kelly is responsible for two of those three losses, which occurred in the 2019/2020 seasons.

Freeman is 4-1 against the SEC. Since 2024 (only the past two seasons, not since the start of his tenure) he’s “only” 3-1 (including a win in Kyle Field and a win against the SEC Champion). There, you got me, he’s only 3-1 in the past two years, not 4-1 total, happy?

quote:

you don’t agree with from that same time frame

Kirby Smart’s a better coach than Brian Kelly. Nick Saban’s a better coach than Brian Kelly. UGA was a better program and team than ND in 2019. Alabama was a better program and team than ND in 2020. There, you got me again, congrats, you’re the first person in the history of the world to realize those things…

Do you know what anecdotal means? And starting “the facts” isn’t stating some facts that are curated while ignoring others so no you didn’t just state the facts and btw anecdotes aren’t fiction.

This is gobbledygook. Like I said you just want to exclude whatever doesn’t fit your bias.

quote:

I brought up his record

Which extends to 2022 and one game in 2021, years you then claimed do not count simply because you didn’t like the facts from that data set so you made a hypocritical argument which is what I said. Thanks for confirming that

quote:

There, you got me again, congrats, you’re the first person in the history of the world to realize those things

Another example of how you discuss topics, “gotcha games”. Thats what you’re doing not what I’m doing. All you’ve done is curate and exclude facts that don’t support a bias which is exactly what I pointed out. You keep shrinking the scope of every data set until all you’re left with are anecdotes and recency bias. The flip side of the argument would he if I used ND losing to ATM and basing an entire argument on that particular game which I’m sure you’d agree wouldn’t make any sense.
