Needs to be opened and over before this thing called "school" starts.
I get the sentiment of doing it before school starts but it’s a chaotic mess to do it in a very short window before spring. While we may not care about school, it’s still there and you have to keep both credits earned and class capacities in mind.
I’d rather treat it like free agency and have the spring act like a legal tampering period and then middle of May be when the transfers take place. However, if you transfer, you cannot participate in spring practices.
Again, will never happen. The chaos is preferred over any potential fixes. Logistics be damned.

My 2 cents
I want an objective playoff qualifier. No committee. No polls or formula.
As it stands now give me the top 4 in the B1G and top 4 in the SEC plus the ACC top 2 and the B12 top 2.
Conference winners get byes.
B1G 2 vs ACC 2 winner vs SEC 1
SEC 3 vs B1G 4 winner vs ACC 1
SEC 2 vs B12 2 winner vs B1G 1
B1G 3 vs SEC 4 winner vs B12 1
First round home fields 1st week Dec
2nd round Sugar, Orange, Indy, Cotton
2nd week Dec
Championship game Rose Bowl NY Day
Portal mid Jan until the end of the month.
No conference champ games. 10 bowls in December. 4 bowls opening zero weekend.

Would also also make it like the college football video game in which coaching carousel can’t do anything until after season. Also, players can’t elect to transfer until portal opens despite coaching changes
Need to limit players opting out of playing in bowl games too

End the bowls. No one gives a frick about them anymore. Playoffs are no longer picked via a selection committee that makes completely senseless and arbitrary & biased decisions regarding who gets in and is left out. Just use the BCS model.
No more neutral site playoff games. Only neutral site is the championship. No more conference championships. Early signing day is moved up to August.

Not hot take.
Josh Pate is a tool now.

I’d be good with the Rose Bowl getting the championship every year,
absolutely not, this will never happen so no need to even say it.

I didn't listen but I have the best solution around:
Go back to how everything in CFB was in 2014.
If you aren't a playoff kinda guy, go back to how they were between 1998-2013.
Boom, done.
-No billionares deciding the national champ just for fun
-No more limitless never ending transfers
-No more UTTERLY STUPID conference expansion with teams that make no fricking sense
-Conferences capped at 12 teams and are actually REGIONAL, so you have major buy in from that part of the country
-Coaches actually have to develop players again instead of just buying a new team each offseason
-Bowls still matter. The only reason they don't now is becuase ESPN yells at you for 11 months telling you that only the playoffs matter. Funny that prior to 2014, winning the Sugar or Orange bowl was still a really big damn deal.
The good ol days

We've trashed everything that college football is about, and yet we're supposed to give a shite about the Rose Bowl?
frick them. It can go away completely.

UCLA being able to move to a new stadium is currently in litigation/arbitration.
The Rose Bowl being intimately connected with the Rose Parade and all its pagentry is unique and something that should be preserved. While all bowl games/bowl committees are a combination of civic boosterism and advertising/marketing opportunities for sponsors, most can't match the Rose Bowl in this regard.
I'd discuss tradition and history, but these are no longer sacred cows.
There is nothing like tailgating on a golf course typically in 60-70 degree weather on New Year's Day in Pasadena.
