Hmmm. I think you mean

While Gordon is a dumbass, I still think it is so goddamned stupid that we don't get to watch him play because he drinks alcohol and smokes weed.

It obviously doesn't hamper his performance on the field, and yet the NFL keeps him off the field because (i guess) they want all of their players to be some shining beacon of a role model to little kids around the country.

If Gordon gets arrested and goes to jail, I get it. Keep him off the field. Maybe suspend him for a few games for a DUI.

But the NFL actively goes out of its way to try and catch people smoking weed and drinking alcohol? frick, that's ridiculous. I don't really care if he's shooting up heroin on the weekends, so long as he's not harming others. I just want to see him go ham for 200 yards receiving on any given sunday.

Well, the NFL franchises who have an agreement to pay over 50% of league revenues to the players want to have a confidence that the players accept the responsibility that goes with that and who will play up to their potential. Part of that assurance is a drug policy that the players agree to up front.

It's a very reasonable expectation.

I believe his story but there is no way in hell he actually wrote that.

I do. Just because athletes typically take easy courses in college doesn't mean they never learn how to read or write at a college level.

I understand all that shite, I'm just saying that as a fan, I don't care in the slightest that he smokes weed or drinks alcohol... so long as he isn't a menace to society. I just want to see the best football players playing on sunday. That's my ideal NFL.

I also think it is kinda horseshite that the NFL decided that players smoking weed/drinking in their free time means they can't live up to their potential. Gordon would be living up to his potential just fine if it weren't for the drug testing (as evidenced by him being the best receiver in the NFL the one season he actually played).

Now, I realize that it is his fault for failing them and he's an idiot... I just feel like it is a problem for him that shouldn't even exist.

Are we cutting him slack because
He is an athlete? We have plenty of kids in this country, who werent blessed to have his athletic talent or the resources, that get caught up in the same situations and sympathy is nowhere to be found, nor is help to get them back to being a productive citizen.

They just don't have the mediums to write pieces that can be spread to the masses.

When they protest about the help they need to escape the stressors of their world, we conjure up every excuse for why they are fabricating their realities.

He takes a private flight to Vegas
The plane lands
He gets a call to report, within 4 hrs, for a test

....sounds like somebody on the plane dropped a dime

Was he not allowed to consume alcohol? I am lost on that part since I really haven't kept up with him or the details of his suspension.

After the incident last offseason, he was banned from alcohol comsumption. He should have known a test was coming around New Years.

I specifically put 2 qualifiers in my post to avoid such a response.

If we're not using money as the barometer, why would you still think dropping out of school is worse than missing out on the NFL? Taking money out of the equation, it's basically the same thing.

I get that they agreed to it, but I don't think it's reasonable.

Anyone that calls out people like Stephen A. and Cris Carter for claiming that every fricking professional athlete to walk to Earth is a "close personal friend" gets an A+ in my book

Cris is the biggest fraud on TV.
