Ouch.

yahoo

quote:

Spieth, who posted a 2-over 73 on Friday at Riviera Country Club, signed his card stating that he made a par at the par-3 fourth in the second round. He actually made a bogey after his drive missed the green, and then he missed a 5-foot putt to save his par by just a few inches.

I like how a 73 is bad for him. It would take divine intervention for me to shoot a 73.

Golf is as bad as baseball. Get with the times, buck tradition. What other sport "requires" someone to keep their own score, but then you know they messed up and "nuh uh, you outta here".

Seems like a dumb rule that was created before tv and internet and probably needs to be removed.

The rule is gay af for modern times but I’m fine with someone getting removed for writing a 3 on a par 3 that they made bogey on.

That’s just dumb.

I honestly can't believe we are still signing score cards but since they are who the frick cares if he messed up and wrote down a wrong number. Golf rules are so dumb

Wonder what would happen if he wrote 5 instead of 3

I think this happens from time to time, no? I think I remember hearing about other golfers doing the same thing, inadvertently of course.

The 5 would be accepted because it was a higher score than he made.

It’s not that hard to write your own score down, then verify after the round. Your caddy keeps it as well. It’s not comparable to other sports, because you’d be trusted a 70 year old volunteer to keep your score.

As a non-golfer I have to ask.. If there was someone who was watching him play and therefore knew he made a mistake, why not just have that person be in charge of scorekeeping?
