Innumerable pitching changes, shifts, home run swings to the exclusion of hitting for average.

So someone good at hitting home runs should not try to just so they can have a better average?

in other words. they have figured out what actually matters in baseball and have made the logical conclusion to move away from the stuff that doesnt matter

In the process they've made it less entertaining

Gallo's AVG on balls hit over the fence: 1.000
Gallo's AVG on all other balls in play: something less than that

If he can hit home runs at prolific enough clip that he's still a net positive despite high strikeout rates, why would he not swing for a home run every time?

At first Gallo annoyed me as a player but I'm starting to think that he is kind of turning into the Nolan Ryan of hitters.

Puts up crazy power hitting stats but strikes out a ton and has a mediocre batting average.

Ryan put up crazy power pitching stats but walked a bunch of guys and had a mediocre win/loss ratio.

Advanced stats say both are worth the negatives by a large margin yet traditional baseball fans tend to scoff at their accomplishments as overrated.

Well BA is a horrible stat to measure a hitter’s effectiveness anyway.

Regardless, he is slashing .274/.426/.679 this year.

They got smarter about baseball.

And I really don’t see this big difference from a fan perspective. It’s still baseball with some tweaks here and there. Sports evolve. They always have.
