I don't see him being that impressive. Since he had been there it's always "this is the year FSU returns". Well he hasn't really accomplished anything spectacular. Bunch of fizzled out teams who have choked. This year is yet to be determined but one not complete undefeated year doesn't mean a whole lot.

Sure. And those arguments are valid if you agree with the premise that FSU is FSU and we should be good no matter what.

That simply isn't true.

FSU should be good. They have tradition money great campus hot bitches and have a rich talent pool. Does that mean every year they should be awesome? No.

After looking at the teams Jimbo has beat and lost to Im less a fan. Clemson 2 times a UF once I think. the rest is duke and like murray state

Jimbo has been a phenomenal manager of the program. The first goal as a head coach in college football is talent acquisition. In that aspect of his job Jimbo is second only to Saban. The talent he's acquired at Florida State can't be found anywhere outside of Tuscaloosa; it's literally incredible.

People talk about Winston, but all Winston is doing is allowing the talent around him to really shine through. He is incredible in his own right, but this isn't an A&M situation where JFF is just being Superman. The two-deep at Florida State, hell the three-deep is scary.

As a pure game management/Xs and Os coach, he's probably not top 15 IMO, but as long as he continues to dominate everyone in talent acquisition he will continue to win a significant majority of his games and continue to elevate FSU's program.

I wouldn't have a problem with someone putting him in the top 5, but that's just because of how strongly I believe in recruiting.

I agree he is a good recruiter.

I never said I had a problem with people saying hes top 5. But they would be wrong. You can look through the entire thread I have said many times I think hes good blah blah but he just in not top 5

Saying Jimbo is top 5 is like saying Dabo is also.

It has everything to do with the topic. You're arguing his first few years at FSU were poor. I'm explaining why. Jimbo took over a program stuck in the mid 90s. What he has done is incredible.

FSU has always been loaded with talent. dont kid yourselves. the guys been at fsu since 2007. So if the players didnt care about winning or losing then its on him also seeing as he was the oc and named the coach in waiting. maybe he should have recruited players that wanted to play their heart out for fsu.

Because there is no argument that you can make he isn't top 5..you would have a huge argument to put him top 10..

You must struggle with reading comprehension.

I said Jimbo was second only to Saban in talent acquisition not Dabo.

Nice try though, actually not really.

If you think FSU had this level of talent in 2007 you're a fvcking dumbass.

Jimbo has recruited his arse off the last three classes and now it's paying dividends.

I really thought he was gonna set his successor up with a championship-ready squad but Jameis put them ahead of schedule this year.

Jimbo is a really good offensive coach that has the occasion brain fart every season. I've long thought their main issue was Rick Trickett and their perpetually undersized offensive lines.

They seem to have either gotten that fixed or Jameis is just that good that he's been able to mask that issue.

-Miles
-Spurrier?
-Stoops?

They're having a phenomenal season. Jimbo has done a great job with this team.

That doesn't change the fact that some of his past teams have choked in games that should've been blowouts. He's a great recruiter, one of the best in the game. As far as preparation and in-game adjustments, I think he's pretty mediocre.

A gaudy record at a historical power in a terrible conference isn't proof that he's a great coach. It's proof that he's a solid coach, but nothing more. Not everyone would have success at FSU, but there are a bunch of coaches out there that would.

He's a good coach; there's no doubt about that. Top 5? Eh...

Was my post directed towards you? I didn't think so. So you might want to read again.

Talking about reading comprehension, the nerve of these people

I could make a phenomenal argument that he is a top 5 coach. But given the post quality so far in this thread, I really don't want to waste my time.

Coaching rankings are very subjective outside the top 2-3 imo.

Well then I guess that makes Muschamp top 5 too since he has the same amount of eos ranked wins.

Name me a coach who hasn't. Outside of Saban and maybe Meyer there really isn't one.

I'd agree and as I think this is the most important thing about being a head coach I'd say this carries a huge amount of weight.

Mediocre is too harsh, but no I don't think he's an expert at Xs and Os.

I really think yal underestimate how talented FSU is. I used to, but then I saw them in persion. That's the best team in the nation.

If they play Bama they might (actually they probably will) lose, but that's only because Saban with a month off is virtually unbeatable. If FSU and Bama played next week I have little doubt FSU would win.

Jimbo's playcalling this season has been great, the only terrible call he's had this season was in the 1st game against Pitt with some stupid toss to Kelvin Benjamin
