The NCAA fining a player $11.5k while still trying to maintain that he is an "amateur athlete" is fricking hilarious

Probably a lot more than that laying around since Memphis landed him.

I don't. But he joined a voluntary private league with rules and broke them. He accepted the money and then I guess spent it. That's his punishment. People act like the NCAA is being unfair but the kid didn't have to play college sports.

LOL, you can return if you pay $11,500 that you clearly didn't have in the first place. It's like they are trying their best to induce him to receive improper benefits again to play in one game

Shouldn't Penny have to pay a fine too? And he actually gets paid(over the table).

I should have mentioned $11,500 in clean money, because I’m sure the NCAA will want that paper trail.

John Wall and Josh Selby had to pay “fines” as well to regain eligibility iirc.

He can just take out federal subsidized student loans. Donate the money to charity of his choice, and then write it off at the end of the year. Pay the loans back after he gets his signing bonus next summer. Just wait until the new calendar year to donate the money.

Damn. The dropped the proverbial hammer on Memphis. While, at the time I was all on the "Yeah, they are playing him. Take that, NCAA", perhaps that wasn't the wisest course of action they could have taken. Now he's gotta miss the three games that he played plus the nine he got.
