Seems like, if they were in the SEC, they would have curb stomped everybody.

You still want to hold on to being a dumbshit?

I will never understand why people put any stock in national rankings. Do you think that maybe stats could be skewed based on the level of competition? Do you really think that Michigan State had the best Defense in the country going into the Ohio State game? Blows my mind.

EJ Manuel said that his FSU playbook was more complicated than his Bills playbook.

Steve Young is a jackass and who cares if that's what he thinks. Doesn't make it the same for everything else.

Learning facts about law written down on paper is completely different than learning an offense and applying it to live game action in which things change every second and being able to react to those changes quickly

ByteMe, it's not like FSU is recruiting kids in Montana. They've crushed recruiting the past four or five years. I'm pretty sure two of their DT's were #1 and #2 in the country the time they signed. They have a 5-star safety as a RB for Pete's sake. Their bench is oozing with talent.

Ok I will make my case for MSU if you agree to say who you think was the best defense and give an answer your own question above.
I'll answer first since you asked.

What does that have to do with what I said? Comparing national stats is bullshite...I can remember when LA Tech and Houston had the number one offenses in the country...do you think that was accurate or had more to do with the level of competition they were playing?

And my point is the gap between the two conferences is not as big as you think. And, considering the ridiculous talent FSU has, the "level of competition" argument is rendered almost moot.

I think the gap has closed but I think it's still big...just my opinion.

I agree that FSU has ridiculous talent but how does that make the level of competition point moot?

My point is I'm pretty sure FSU would run the table in the SEC this year.

Yes. Virginia Tech, and FSU too were very dominant. Who would you have picked, and if you pick any SEC team, your answer is invalid.

Michigan State has only allowed four teams to pass for over 200, only four teams to rush for over 100 yards.

IOWA (who averages 188 rushing a game) got 23 yards
Michigan (who averages a terrible 130 a game) got -48 yards.

Notre Dame (who averages 249 passing a game) got 142

I could go on and on, but this notion that SEC fans have that these guys can't play defense is ridiculous when the SEC looked like the freaking Big 12 this year.

I don't know who has the best defense right now, but I might have a better guess after the bowl season. That being said, I have a problem with someone thinking that the #1 defense, statistically, is accurate when the only ranked team played was mutual for both teams.

I disagree but you're entitled to your opinion, obviously.

I think one of the main issues that fans from other conferences fail to realize, is the week to week grind of the SEC. Take your toughest game and do it 3 or 4 times...it takes a toll. You being pretty sure that FSU could have run the table in the SEC is a bold statement.

Well it's not just the stats, I wouldn't have told you Hawaii had the best offense in the country 6 years ago.

Did you miss the point about the level of competition? Does that make them a better Defense than a team that only allowed four teams to pass for over 250 and only four teams to rush for over 200 if those teams were all in the top 25?

It was a strange year for SEC defenses, no doubt. Do you think that the BIG 10 is better than the SEC?

They probably played more ranked teams that year than MSU did this year.
