I have to disagree on a numbor of fronts.
1) the Raiders may have been the worst NFL team over the last collective nine seasons, but they were 8-8 last year and appear to be getting better.
2) Al Davis was a pioneer of the modern NFL. With five super Bowl apperances and three world championships, Davis and the Raiders get a whoooooooooooole lot of slack, IMO.
3) Cincinnati's management is far worse. I mean...just look at what the hell is going on thre. You have a tug of war with a franchise QB who is willing to leave $6 million in cash (but f__k the organization by trying to force their hand on a $12 million cap figure) because he can't stand wroking there. SIX MILLION. He's putting a ton of money where is mouth is.
4) the Jags won their division in 2007 and just missed by a game or two last year. that doesn't mean they aren't poorly run.
5) Jacksonville is not the big league-friendliest market, to begin with. Questionable management, like cutting the only QB on your team who has proven he can win NFL games, to "save $9 million" 9and become more attractive for an L.A. area buyer, only hasten that city's path to NFL doom.

Tell me... How many pro bowlers have come from the Jags recently? I mean, besides Jones-Drew who is really the only player outside of Jacksonville that anyone knows about. Wait... If I remember, Garrard went to the pro bowl last year. That means Jax just cut a pro bowl QB. Awesome!
Thee was this guy called Marcedes Lewis. I seem to recall him going last year...
Garrard should have never gone.

Does Del Rio not help with the draft? Part of his job is talent evaluation correct?
He has his say, but he only offers input. Final say laid with Shack Harris until he got fired and now it rests with Gene Smith.

I mean, think about the top teams. Steelers, San Diego, Jets, Patriots, etc. All of them consistently develop their players into stars.
That's as much about drafting as it is coaching. We had horrible drafts under Shack Harris.

How about Forbes ranking the Jags dead last in the rankings as well? Does that count?
How about you link them because I never saw them. Then I'll consider counting them.
In any case, no that would not make it objectively true...would it?

When was the last time Jax went to the super bowl? When was the last time Oakland went? Case closed...
How long have the Jaguars been in the league? How about the Raiders? Case reopened and now closed.

Oh... I don't know... I'm sure you'll figure it out when it's the LA Jaguars.
I know you don't know, that's why you're talking out of your arse here. Since you value the opinions of sports writers so much, here:

Good point. I would have been terrified to face Garrard. Imagine going up aginst a quarterback that can't call an audible or go through his progressions.
Garrard wasn't an All-Pro, but he was a Pro Bowler and he knows how to play in the NFL...FAR, FAR FAR ahead of Luke McCown or Blaine Gabbert (who is probably wondering what hell hole he signed up to play in).

Luke McCown named the starter?
Yes.

Is there anyone left who doesn't think the Jags are trying to pull a Major League, mail it in, empty out their stadium so they can have an excuse to move to the Taj Mahal they're building in Los Angeles?
Considering most of the fans were tired of Garrard and his shitty play, no. If anything this might lead to more people buying tickets especially if Gabbert takes over.

He was like the 20th alternate, that's the only reason he even sniffed the Pro Bowl. And McCown was outplaying him last season before he got injured.

On January 24, 2010, David Garrard was selected as the third quarterback for the AFC team of the 2010 Pro Bowl, backing up Matt Schaub and Vince Young after Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer were unable to participate.
Amazing that these three guys were on a Pro Bowl team a year ago and now they aren't playing this year.

A litte hyperbole, no?
So, salary cap issues aside, you'd rather McCown be your QB?
If Drew Brees got hurt and would miss the season TODAY, and the Saints had a choice of Garrard or McCown, would you prefer McCown (I am assuming you're a Saints fan)?
I'd get in my car, go to Airline Drive and DEMAND a refund on my tickets if (in that made up scenario) the Saints picked up McCown over Garrard.
IMO, the Jags were a 7 to 9 win team and they just dropped their ceiling (instead of their floor) to 7 wins with that move, likely 6-10 or worse.

And Gatorrocks, the Forbes article was ranking team value. Perhaps you can explain to me how monetary value reveals how good the entire organization, or even just the owner, is? I guess the Cowboys have the best organization in the NFL since they're worth the most, no?
5 Best and 5 Worst Owners
There's a Sports Illustrated article on the 5 best owners in the NFL along with the 5 worst. Weaver isn't on either list, but Al Davis is. I'll let you guess which one he's on.

Yeah.
I would prefer Gabbert go ahead and start, but yes I prefer McCown to Garrard.
I'm a Jags fan.

This is an interesting development...I remember the discussion was had last week about the dolphins possibly trading for matt flynn...any chance they go after Garrard?
I still think flynn would be the best option...he's young and could be there for a long time...who knows with garrard, have to assume his best days are behind him.

Dude, I wish you and your team the best, but I think your teal, gold, and black shades may be blurring your vision.
I think Weaver is putting the wheels in motion to get out of town and head to the land of milk and honey with that new stadium in Los Angeles.
the Jags are the lowest hanging fruit right now because of their attendance issues and the fact that the Northern Flordia TV market is expendable in contrast to Southern California.
Now, having heard that several times over the last 30 years as a Saints fan, I KNOW that isn't what you want to hear. Fortunately, there isn't another NFL team on the Gulf Coast and the Saints have always been in a state with a rabid fan support, even when they were bad (the 3-13 Mora/Ditka teams in '96/'99 averaged 50,000/game), and a governor who understood the value of having an NFL franchise, even governors who didn't care much for New Orleans or the Saints themselves.
The low hanging fruit of the Jags just got lower for Southern California. the ONLY good news, Jag fan, is that the San Diego Chargers may be hanging a lot lower.

Not so fast. May be Andrew Luck as the replacement.

Read the article I posted about Tampa Bay. The Orlando radio stations don't even carry their games anymore, they carry Jags games.

This is hilarious. I figured they'd give it another year to break in gabbert.

If Garrard had played remotely well then I think they would have. Now I think it's probably likely that Gabbert comes in around mid-season.

Couple of things...
1) Carolina came into the league at the same time Jax did. They've been to a Super Bowl... unlike Jax. And as far as I know, they don't have blackouts. I could be wrong though.
2) Oakland went to the super bowl in 2002. Guess who they beat to get there? AFC South Teams Titans and Texans. Beat them pretty soundly too. And seeing how the Jags had a losing season in 2002, I'm sure the Raiders would have won that game as well.
Oh... Forbes Link
Like I said... Jags are one of (if not the) worst NFL organization. Sure... You have those other teams that are low hanging fruit, but clearly Jax is competing with Oakland and Cincy as the worst in the NFL.
I understand this was a "cost cutting" move. But unless Gabbert comes in and tears it up, Jax is looking at another losing season. That certainly isn't going to inspire Jacksonville residents to come out in droves to support their team.
Most of the Jax fans I know are pissed off. They want to win now and know that (unfortunately) Garrard gave them the best chance. They know that McCown is a stop gap and now are hoping that Gabbart comes in and plays now that they know the organization doesn't care about this year. Most think they are seriously trying to move the team elsewhere. I'm beginning to see what they mean.
McCown? Get real... 4-12 at best.

Texans, Browns, Lions, and until recently the Saints, have also never been to a Super Bowl.

How have they fared in other seasons?

You think another season of mediocre QB play was going to inspire fans?

The fans you know are idiots then, too. McCown outplayed Garrad last season before he got hurt and from all indications, including statements from coaches and players, he outplayed Garrard in camp this season. He won't be the QB of the future, that is correct. But he can at least do what Garrard did, which is simply manage games. Garrard wasn't taking us anywhere this season so they should have reconsidered those expectations.
